In early to mid-April of this year, in Magok-dong,
I am Director Yeo Sang-ho, who opened Yonsei Wish Dental.
We are
weshe = we + she + he
welcoming everyone,
making everyone’s smile
beautiful,
and because it sounds the same as wish, which means hope,
we chose this name because we wanted to be a place that helps solve the hopes everyone has.
Today’s topic is related to laminate treatment, which many people seek out at a medical institution because they want to make their smile more beautiful.
This focuses on improving aesthetic concerns while minimizing unnecessary removal of the teeth and preserving as much of the existing healthy tissue as possible.
In particular, ceramic laminate veneers have attracted attention as a treatment that effectively compensates for appearance changes caused by small gaps between natural teeth or wear by bonding thin ceramic material to the tooth surface.
- What Is Minimally Invasive Dentistry?
Yonsei Wish Dental often sees many people think that their teeth must be filed down too much for a pretty smile.
However, the minimally invasive dentistry approach is a technique that achieves aesthetic and functional improvements while preserving the structure of natural teeth as much as possible.
In particular, ceramic laminate veneers restore a natural appearance by attaching thin ceramic material to the tooth surface,
and have the characteristic of minimizing unnecessary damage to tooth structure.

Looking inside the mouth,
you can see the spacing between the upper anterior teeth and the progress of chipped tooth tips.
There are several ways to address this case.
-
Orthodontics
-
Resin
-
Prosthetics
Orthodontics can resolve the fundamental alignment and bite issues,
but it has the characteristic of taking a long time, more than 3 to 6 months.
As an alternative,
restorative methods are often used.
Resin can be completed in a single day,
but compared with other options it has weaker bonding strength, so it may come off, and it also carries a risk of discoloration.
Crowns have high bonding strength and durability,
but they require a high amount of removal of natural tooth structure.
Compared with that, laminate can provide aesthetic treatment with a small amount of tooth reduction when the chipped tooth tip is treated through a minimally invasive process.
Therefore, at Yonsei Wish Dental, we believe laminate is the better option.

The reason is that there is a diagnostic mock-up process that shows the final result before the procedure,
so the patient can check the shape they want, and

after confirming the desired shape,
the tooth is reduced only by checking and removing little by little the parts needed to attach the prosthesis for the chipped incisal edge.
When the tooth surface is being prepared accurately and uniformly,
it is important to prevent unnecessary damage to healthy tooth structure.
After that, we obtained intraoral information using an oral scanner,

and when fabricating the ceramic laminate,
it is important to achieve a natural result, so we obtain the shade through a shade guide to make it similar to the existing teeth,
and at Yonsei Wish Dental,
we explain that communication between the technician, doctor, and patient is made possible smoothly through our in-house lab.

After that, we carried out the work for attachment to the prosthesis,

and after performing processes such as etching on the natural tooth as well, we proceed with laminate bonding.
As a result, the chipped tooth tip and the gaps between the teeth disappeared,
and the teeth were restored to a shape similar to the surrounding natural teeth.
At Yonsei Wish Dental, after treatment was completed,
we explained the precautions so that the restoration can be used for a long time.
The treatment introduced first was one of the treatment options for chipped front tooth tips.
If you want a treatment that is a little more natural than resin, and also has strength and translucency, we recommend laminate.
However, not every case can be treated in the same way as the procedure above.
Therefore,
we recommend receiving treatment at a medical institution that provides care tailored precisely to each individual through sufficient communication and a detailed oral examination.
