Hello,
This is Yeo Sang-ho, director of the Magok-dong dental clinic.
Have you ever looked in the mirror and, when smiling,
felt bothered by the gap between your teeth?

Every time you take a photo, you end up closing your mouth on purpose,
and you couldnβt smile confidently...
More people than you might think relate to this experience.
In particular, many people think that if the natural teeth are spaced apart,
there is no solution other than orthodontic treatment.
But orthodontics is not the only answer.
Through a minimally invasive treatment called
'laminate,'
esthetic improvement can be achieved
in a short period of time.
Today, I will introduce information related to this.
- Treatment options for interdental spacing
When the front teeth are spaced apart,
the standard approach is orthodontic treatment,
which we often recommend.
However, there are cases where orthodontics alone
does not fully close the gap.
In these cases, treatment is needed to restore the natural tooth shape
through a combined approach.
Such methods include
resin and laminate.
So, what are the differences depending on the treatment method?
At the Magok-dong dental clinic,
I will explain the differences using the two methods above as examples.
- What are the differences by treatment type?
Many people
often express reluctance about shaving down natural teeth
when they receive esthetic prosthetic restoration.
However, nowadays, this can also be done with
'non-invasive laminate' that requires almost no tooth reduction.
Shall we easily compare the two methods?
βοΈ Resin restoration
Advantage: completed in a single visit
Disadvantage: requires precise sculpting skills,
and over time, issues such as loss of gloss or
discoloration may occur
Additional note: polishing is needed every 6 months
βοΈ Laminate
Advantage: extremely precise in color and shape,
and highly durable
Disadvantage: the teeth need to be slightly refined,
and it takes more time and cost compared with resin
The larger the interdental gap,
the more suitable laminate becomes compared with resin,
because it can finely fill a wider space.
To create a natural smile line,
these pros and cons should be carefully considered when choosing.
From now on, at the Magok-dong dental clinic,
I will introduce the treatment process
while showing example photos related to this.
- Examination

It can be confirmed that there is a gap between the front teeth and the adjacent teeth when smiling,
and

when viewed from the side,
we could observe that the gap was wide from the first premolar
on the upper right side to the canine.

After checking gum health,
the gingival line was properly formed.
In addition, because the alignment and bite were judged to be free of problems,
Magok-dong dental clinic determined that treatment with laminate,
which can be completed in a short period,
would be possible.
- Tooth proportion analysis

We helped design the actual prosthetic using a computer program,
and

by reflecting this,
we can confirm the shape of the prosthetic through an intraoral scanner and computer simulation.
Through this, a wax-up guide
can be created.
After that, the actual laminate prosthesis is made,
and
I will now introduce that process
at the Magok-dong dental clinic.
- Treatment process

First, after refining the surface of the teeth,
a model is made by taking an impression.

Once the laminate prosthesis has been fabricated,
a rubber dam is placed,
then it is checked once more to see whether it fits properly,

before preparing for bonding.

These are before and after bonding,
and you can confirm that the open gap has been filled.
I have explained laminate, one of the solutions
when the space between the teeth appears open while smiling.
The concept of so-called successful treatment is
balancing all factors such as cost, esthetics, longevity, and soft tissue trauma
in a well-rounded way.
In addition,
I would like to finish by noting that it is the role of the medical staff
to provide a wide range of options so that the patient can choose
the most appropriate treatment.
This was Yeo Sang-ho, director of the Magok-dong dental clinic.
Thank you for reading this long post.
