The chin implant is poking out under the chin..ㅠㅠ A plastic surgery specialist explains a case of chin advancement surgery after chin implant removal.

In cases of a recessed chin, the jawline is not clearly visible even if the double chin is not severe.

On top of that, the mouth can look protruded.

In such cases, because bone surgery feels intimidating,

people first get filler injections.

They like the improved look, but it has to be injected again,

and the shape changes each time,

so next they consider a chin implant.

If the chin implant stays in place without any problems,

the bone touching the implant may be absorbed a little over time,

but there is usually no major issue. However, in some cases, the bone can be absorbed almost to the point of exposing the tooth roots (blue arrow).

Fortunately, this patient had not yet developed any tooth pain or discomfort.

Instead, they came in with a bigger problem.

The chin implant had become tilted diagonally (yellow dotted line),

and it was in a state where it was about to break through under the chin (red arrow).

Because it was no longer a situation that could be left alone,

the implant was removed,

and chin advancement surgery was performed. We planned to do scar revision surgery for the scar under the chin after more than 6 months had passed.

While performing this surgery, my personal thought was

that if we were going to open the mouth and go in anyway,

it would be better to do it as bone surgery.

Of course, that assumes the surgeon’s skill is sufficiently strong.

This patient no longer had to worry about the implant breaking through under the chin,

and they were satisfied because the asymmetry seemed to be corrected compared to before surgery.

It was a simple procedure, but I felt good as well.
