These days, you can find the nostalgic #retro trend everywhere, bringing back fond memories. Among them, I think the one getting the hottest response is Pokémon Bread. Back in school, who would have thought that among the many breads we used to buy at the snack bar during break time, Pokémon Bread would be re-released and become this popular? I visited a place where you can enjoy #bread with a strong #retrofeel.
I hadn’t tried this bread before, but the design itself brings back #oldfeelings, so it’s a place loved by both the MZ generation, who are enthusiastic about retro style, and older generations who can remember that era.
#1983Bread
Since it is located in Goyang, it’s not somewhere you can just drop by casually, so you should definitely check the business hours before going!!
It is closed every Monday.
It is open from Tuesday to Sunday. From Tuesday to Saturday, it operates from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and on Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
It is not a place that stays open late.
#1983SamcheolliBriquette, which is popular for its #briquettebread, is said to be a different brand from the #briquettebread you can find while traveling in Gangneung.
I was confused at first too, but after visiting 1983 Bread in person, I could clearly see that it was different.
You can infer something from the number 1983, right?
I guessed that it might mean Samcheolli Briquette opened in 1983, but that wasn’t what 1983 SINCE meant.
1983 was said to represent the idea of starting bread at age 19 and wanting to keep making bread until age 89.

Since the briquette bread is 1983 Bread’s signature item, briquettes are placed all around the entrance.
Some of them have turned yellow, so it looks like they actually use briquettes.

The retro feeling isn’t limited to the briquette bread.
On the stove in the middle of the store, there was a nostalgic lunchbox sitting on top.
I belong to the school lunch generation, so I didn’t carry lunchboxes around, but I had seen them through media and even tried one at a bar that called it a nostalgic lunchbox, so the lunchbox on the stove didn’t feel unfamiliar.
The retro interior seems to match the signature briquette bread well.

The biggest reason I visited 1983 Bread was, of course, this briquette bread.
I found it a little surprising that it showed both the black color before the briquette is burned and the yellowish color of a briquette after burning.
If you take a photo without knowing it’s bread, it really feels like an actual briquette.
That made me wonder whether the briquettes outside were also bread. Of course, that would never be the case.

I thought briquette bread would only come in one type, but 1983 Bread’s briquette bread comes in various kinds, which made it even better, and I felt glad I had visited in person.
In fact, since the sauce inside each briquette bread is different, I wanted to try them all, but that wasn’t possible, so I had to choose. Since I thought there must be a reason for its popularity, I picked the top 2, and the one I unfortunately didn’t get to choose was the 1983 Cheese Briquette Bread.
It is also called Emmental cheese bread. This bread reportedly won the silver prize at the 2020 Bakery Fair. Black cocoa and squid ink were used to represent the black color of a briquette, and it contains plenty of Emmental cheese. They say it tastes even better if you heat it in the microwave for 30 to 40 seconds before eating.
There is also the 1983 Lightning Charcoal Bread. Like a charcoal briquette, it is smaller than the briquette bread. So the price is also 4,500 won.
The Lightning Charcoal Bread contains unsalted butter.

The bread I chose was the Cream Reje, one of the top 2 signature briquette breads at 1983 Bread. It is a briquette-shaped bread that faithfully recreates the look of the old-style briquette. Inside the bread, crèmé pâtissière and fresh cream are combined in the right ratio, and natural vanilla beans are generously used to make the cream even smoother and sweeter. Crumble is placed on top to express briquette ash. That is why I could see why its sweet-and-salty charm is so popular.
Another top 2 item is the 1983 Briquette Ash Bread, an injeolmi cream glutinous rice cake.
It is realistic enough to say that it faithfully recreates the shape of briquette ash, and when placed together with the briquette bread, one gives the feeling of being before use and the other after use. Since injeolmi soybean powder was used to create the briquette ash shape, the bread contains an entire glutinous rice cake inside, along with plenty of injeolmi cream. It has a chewy texture that feels like both rice cake and bread, so while younger people may like it, it seems like a bread older people would enjoy as well.

Briquette bread that lets you fully feel retro vibes!! It is visually enjoyable with its briquette shape, great for taking 인증 shots, and tasty too, so it’s no wonder it’s so popular!!
