This year, the monsoon season seems to have felt unusually long. There were rain forecasts, but no rain fell, and for about a month it kept feeling like the monsoon period. Then this week, it finally rained in a way that made it impossible not to think, "Yes, this is monsoon season," and there were reports of both loss of life and flood damage in multiple places. Even so, I still have to keep going with my daily life, one day at a time. And just like that, lunchtime came around as usual today. Maybe because we’re still under the influence of the typhoon, it isn’t raining, but the temperature has dropped a little, and I found myself craving a warm bowl of soup.
That’s how I ended up ordering sundae-guk. Since it was my first time ordering sundae-guk, I looked through the delivery apps carefully to see where to order from, and I chose Pyeongan-do Sundae-guk Gamjatang because it had good reviews and lots of positive comments.
I don’t know how much I prayed for it to be delicious while the delivery was on the way.

They also included chili peppers, salted fermented shrimp, and a gochujang minced seasoning that goes well with sundae-guk. Personally, I like places that let you add chili seasoning to taste with your sundae-guk. I do like spicy food, but there are times when I want to enjoy a mild, clear broth too. That’s why I was glad that Pyeongan-do Sundae-guk Gamjatang’s sundae-guk came with a clear broth. And another thing that feels like it belongs with sundae-guk is kkakdugi. When you order food for delivery, there’s nothing more disappointing than not having enough kkakdugi. So I wrote that I wanted a lot of kkakdugi, and they sent this much! The owner is so generous!!

Let’s look at today’s main dish, the sundae-guk. At first glance, it seemed to have a lot of head meat in it. Even though it’s sundae-guk, if there isn’t much head meat, it can feel a bit wasteful to buy it as a meal. I hadn’t eaten Pyeongan-do Sundae-guk Gamjatang yet, but I already felt like I had made a good choice.

You can add the minced chili seasoning and spicy peppers to taste, but today I just wanted to try the clear broth as it was, so I only added a little bit of the spicy peppers. Rather than the heavy spiciness that comes from gochujang, I wanted a clean, sharp heat.

As expected, the sundae-guk was packed with ingredients. There seemed to be plenty of head meat even after I kept eating it, and the sundae was just right. I ate it with rice, and because it was meat and meat broth, I got full surprisingly quickly. But of course, you can’t leave food uneaten.
Before I knew it, I had finished everything.

This was my first time ordering and eating from Pyeongan-do Sundae-guk Gamjatang, and it was a successful sundae-guk. I’ve found another restaurant that will take care of my lunch.
They say the monsoon season has ended, but there’s rain in the forecast again tomorrow. They’re expecting up to 250 mm of rainfall tomorrow, so a heavy downpour is forecast. I hope there won’t be any more rain damage.
