There were probably many people who wanted to meet up over the past while but held back and kept saying, “Let’s meet once COVID eases a bit more.”
Although it has been quite some time since social distancing was lifted, it still felt difficult to actually make plans, so there ended up being fewer gatherings than I expected.
Then, when I finally decided that I could no longer put it off and set up a get-together, I wanted to go somewhere nice since it had been a long time since we met. One of the people joining us strongly recommended Seolmajung as a great gathering place and a Yangjae restaurant, so we ended up going there.
After deciding on Seolmajung as our meeting place and looking into it, it seemed like a place many people visit for gatherings, and the overall reviews were all very good. So I had very high expectations, and after visiting, I understood why people say that.
The food was really delicious.

Actually, Seolmajung in Yangjae is famous for its charcoal-grilled ribs, but we ordered Gagahoho Galbijjim after taking the advice of someone who had visited before.
Still, there were so many menu items that I really wanted to try.
Seolmajung is definitely one of the places I’d like to visit again next time.

I checked the menu, but since we just ordered based on recommendation, I actually don’t know exactly which menu item we ordered. I only know that we ordered a course meal that included galbijjim.
When I looked through the menu for this post, the prices were not too high either, so I can see why it’s well known as a gathering place and why so many people call Seolmajung a Yangjae restaurant.
As with most course meals, the first dish was a light porridge, and it happened to be pumpkin porridge, which I personally like.
Then the watery kimchi was served right away, and while eating the galbijjim, sipping it in between was refreshing and acted like a reset so I could enjoy the food well again.

Then came the salad!!
Well, salad tastes different depending on the dressing, and I think I enjoyed this one a lot thanks to the sweet dressing.

What’s unusual about Seolmajung is that sashimi is served.
I had clearly gone there thinking it was a charcoal-grilled rib specialty restaurant, but sashimi came out.
So I wasn’t expecting much in terms of quality or taste, but it was more delicious than what I’ve had at some sushi restaurants.

And the side dishes that were served,
As a Korean, and honestly as anyone in the world, you can’t help but like these side dishes. Each one was neatly prepared and so tasty.
And although it’s not in the photos, they also served choseokbak jangajji. It doesn’t look great, but the texture was good, so it was a very nice pickled side dish.

And then the main dish!!!
At first, I was surprised because it looked like they were only serving ribs and scallions, to the point that I thought it was a bit much. But there was no need to rush.
They soon brought out a bowl filled with pumpkin, mushrooms, and other vegetables~
First, you let the ribs simmer, then add the vegetables. Since the meat is already mostly cooked when it comes out, it seems like the vegetables are prepared separately.
After all, the cooking time for meat and vegetables is completely different!!
When I first saw the bone-in portion, I thought the amount wouldn’t be much, but as I ate, there was actually a huge amount, and I understood why Seolmajung is loved as a gathering place.
Seolmajung, a Yangjae restaurant, really broke the stereotype that course meals don’t fill you up.

And the doenjang jjigae served with the meal
The doenjang jjigae was also so delicious that even though I was full, I finished it all.

Seolmajung is definitely a great place for gatherings in Yangjae.
It seems like it would also be great for anniversaries or a meeting between families.
It would be disappointing if the food weren’t good, but since it tastes good too, I think I can confidently recommend this place.
