Hello, this is Dana Plastic Surgery.
Today, we will take some time to talk about dandruff.
People with severe dandruff sometimes avoid wearing dark-colored clothing.
This is because they worry that the white, powder-like flakes falling off may make them look unhygienic.
So, at Dana Plastic Surgery, we will explain the causes of dandruff, how to manage it, and how to treat it :)

First, what is dandruff?
Dandruff is a rice bran-like shedding of flakes from cells that have come off the scalp’s outermost layer.
It is a very common condition, with reports saying that about 40% of adults currently have it or have experienced it within the past 1 or 2 years.
What causes dandruff?

The causes of dandruff include:
-
Cases where severe scaling occurs due to some cause
-
Cases where keratinized cells and sebum clump together and then shed
-
Signs of inflammation on the scalp (e.g., seborrheic dermatitis)
- Cases of psoriasis, tinea capitis, and bacterial scalp conditions
Excess secretion of scalp sebum, hormonal imbalance, signs of inflammation, or excessive cell proliferation, among other factors, can all be causes related to the scalp.

Dandruff can broadly be divided into
whether it is related to inflammation! or unrelated to it!

Factors that can contribute to dandruff include:
- Increased scalp irritation and flaking due to excessive use of cleansing products
- It can also occur due to environmental factors without inflammation.
- Seasonal factors such as low temperature and dryness
- Dandruff tends to increase when it is dry and decrease somewhat when it is humid.
- Seborrheic dermatitis
- Dandruff can occur when there is inflammation of the scalp.
So, it is most important to know the cause of dandruff well
and treat it accordingly.

First, for a scalp with a lot of dandruff and inflammation,
regular shampoo is not effective!
That is why you need to buy and use a professional medicated shampoo.
Medicated shampoos are not sold at supermarkets,
and you need to purchase them at a pharmacy or a hospital.
What are the treatment methods for dandruff?

✅ It is recommended to shampoo once a day.
- It is better not to shampoo more than twice a day (it can become too dry and may trigger more dandruff)
- Using a scalp massage tool is helpful.
✅ If you dry your hair with hot air, it can become too dry, so it is better to dry it with cool air or natural air after shampooing.
✅ It is not good to tie your hair while it is still wet.

✅ It is recommended to use medicated shampoo about twice a week, rather than every day!
✅ You need to manage lack of sleep, overwork, and stress well.
✅ Moderate exercise and sufficient vitamin intake are necessary.
Today, we took some time to learn about the causes and treatment methods of dandruff.
