Hello. We are Merry Plastic Surgery Clinic, pursuing natural and beautiful changes.
If there is one issue that cannot be left out in modern society, it would be obesity.
With increased sugar intake and Westernized eating habits, the risk of weight gain, obesity, and adult diseases has been steadily rising.
For that reason, many different dieting methods have become widely available.
In the past, many people focused only on losing weight, but today more people are pursuing healthy dieting that maintains a balance between body fat and body shape.
When dieting like this, it is important not to focus only on the number on the scale, but to proceed based on quantified and systematic data.
Furthermore, for regular health management, many people also undergo blood and urine tests through routine health checkups.
In particular, blood tests can help determine diabetes through HbA1c.
For those wondering, “Isn’t diabetes something to watch by checking blood sugar?” today we will look at HbA1c and the normal range of HbA1c.
What Is HbA1c?

HbA1c is hemoglobin combined with glucose, and the HbA1c level over the past three months can be used to determine blood sugar control, meaning whether diabetes is present.
If levels continue to exceed the normal HbA1c range, diabetes may be suspected.
What Is the Normal HbA1c Range?

So, what is the normal HbA1c range?
Generally, the normal HbA1c range can be said to be 4.0–5.7%.
A slightly higher range of 5.8–6.4% is considered prediabetes, and it can still be improved through daily dietary management.
However, if the HbA1c level is 6.5% or higher, diabetes must be managed with medication or insulin administration.
What Is Prediabetes?

The prediabetes range of 5.7–6.4% is not enough to diagnose diabetes, but because it remains above the normal HbA1c range, careful daily health management is necessary.
In particular, symptoms similar to early diabetes often appear.
As blood sugar rises sharply, drowsiness after meals, general weakness, and thirst may also raise suspicion of early warning signs of diabetes.
Furthermore, for people who already have diabetes, wounds tend to heal relatively slowly.
These symptoms can also appear in prediabetes, so caution is needed.
Average Blood Sugar by HbA1c Level

As HbA1c rises, the average blood sugar concentration also tends to rise.
If HbA1c exceeds the normal range, blood glucose concentration, which is the amount of glucose in the blood, increases significantly, as shown in the table below.
| HbA1c (%) | Average Plasma Glucose (mg/dL) |
|---|
| 5.7 or below | Under 100 |
| 6 | 126 |
| 7 | 154 |
| 8 | 183 |
| 9 | 212 |
| 10 | 240 |
| 11 | 269 |
| 12 | 300 |
How Can Blood Sugar Be Lowered?

Today, we looked at the normal HbA1c range.
If you have been diagnosed with prediabetes, you need to manage it by lowering your blood sugar.
It is recommended that you reduce your intake of foods containing carbohydrates and sugar, and eat foods high in fiber and low on the GI scale that raise blood sugar slowly.
Also, blood sugar and HbA1c are closely related to body weight and body fat.
Therefore, if you are obese, we recommend improving your condition through weight control.
Thank you.
