Today, I’d like to talk about chin reduction surgery, one of the contouring procedures that people inquire about the most. If the chin is long

For people with a long chin, the procedure is performed by shortening the length, and when the chin looks overly protruded like a prognathic jaw, the bone is cut and moved backward to improve the side profile as well. This process is often called a “sandwich osteotomy,” and it can adjust the chin’s length, angle, and forward projection all at once.
If the chin is wide and blunt
In contrast to a long chin, when the chin is wide or spreads out in a rounded U-shape, chin reduction surgery can be performed by making a T-shaped osteotomy, removing the bone in the center, and bringing the bones on both sides together to reduce the width of the chin and create a slimmer, more refined line. In this case, because the change seen from the front is large, many people clearly feel the difference in their image.
Excessive surgery is dangerous!
Chin reduction surgery can produce a significant change, but that does not mean that removing as much as possible is always better. If the chin is moved too far back or reduced too much, a double chin may actually appear more pronounced, or sagging may occur because of excess skin. That is why doctors usually recommend surgery only within the range that the skin can tolerate, aiming for the most natural and harmonious line. The key is not simply making the chin smaller, but balancing the facial proportions and side profile.
