Q. I’ve recently seen something called a “natural yet glamorous” nose surgery(?)—what kind of nose surgery does that refer to?
A. Hello. This is AB Plastic Surgery.
The term “natural yet glamorous” nose surgery has been seen here and there online for the past few years.
It’s not exactly new for slang to appear on the internet, but using slang when talking about medicine is something even I, after a long time studying medicine, rarely encountered, so it feels unfamiliar and even a little amusing.
The newly coined term “jaryeohan” combines the words “natural” and “glamorous,” and it is often used when patients try to express the type of nose shape they want in rhinoplasty.
You could say it reflects the desire to have both a natural-looking nose and a glamorous one.
What do “naturalness” and “glamour” mean in nose surgery?
First, naturalness refers to a look that does not feel artificial and does not have an awkward shape.
There are various cases in which a nose can look artificial after surgery. For example, the nose tip may be lifted too much so that the nostrils look upturned like a snub nose, or the bridge may start getting too high too close to the forehead so that the area between the eyebrows appears overly elevated, or the nostrils may stand too vertically and straight, almost like a 110V plug.
In these cases, it becomes very obvious that the nose has been operated on, which makes it look unnatural.
So if you want a natural nose, it is important to shape it in a way that does not create these kinds of appearances.
And as for a glamorous nose shape, opinions may differ from person to person, but it usually refers to a nose with a high tip, a bridge line that is straight or smoothly straight, and a tip that is not too blunt but rather sharp and refined.
Using materials such as rib cartilage, the key is to create a nose that can achieve the height the patient can have while also producing a well-defined line.
So, to combine the ideas of a natural and glamorous nose shape, it refers to a refined nose that is sufficiently high, has a well-extended line, and does not feel like the nose is overly lifted or that the implant is excessively high.
If a natural nose is a look that suits minimal makeup, then a glamorous nose is a look that shines more when makeup is applied more strongly.
A “natural yet glamorous” nose could be described as a nose that looks attractive both with a simple look and with stronger makeup.
When I first heard someone ask for a nose job to be done in a “natural yet glamorous” way, I remember thinking, “Isn’t that kind of like hot iced Americano?” ^^;
Now I’m used to the phrase and can just think, “Oh, I know what kind of feeling that means,” and move on comfortably, but when I think back to how surprised I was at first, it still makes me laugh.
If you are worried about what nose shape suits you, or whether the nose you want can actually be achieved through surgery, please do not worry alone. Visit AB Plastic Surgery and discuss it together with a board-certified plastic surgeon through a consultation. Thank you.
