Q. When can I start exercising after nose surgery?

After nose surgery, the approximate time when you can resume exercise varies depending on the type and intensity of the exercise.

From the time the packing inside the nose is removed, light exercise such as stretching or walking can be done right away.

To avoid affecting the wound, it is best to exercise without sweating too much, and because it helps circulation, it can help reduce swelling in the early stage.

Light aerobic exercise such as jogging, treadmill use, or cycling is best started around the third week. After the fourth week, you may begin low-intensity strength training with light weights, focusing on repetitions or range of motion. After one month, normal strength training and other exercises may be possible, but caution is needed because there is a risk of physical impact or bleeding due to excessive exercise intensity.

What is important is that this step-by-step progression is possible when recovery is proceeding normally. If the surgical site is healing slowly or there are precautions due to local inflammation or other issues, it is best to consult the hospital where the surgery was performed.

If autologous rib cartilage was harvested for use as a material in nose surgery, a support garment may need to be worn for a certain period to prevent the wound from opening due to body movement or to prevent muscle pain, and strength training that puts strain on the core or abdominal muscles is difficult for at least one month.
