Korea was named the country with the highest number of people who have had plastic surgery.

Based on data from the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS), a U.S. investment-focused media outlet selected the TOP 20, and while most of the upper rankings were occupied by South American countries, Korea took first place.

In this survey, which divided the number of plastic surgeries by population, the top five countries were Greece in fifth place, Colombia in fourth, Brazil in third, and Argentina in second.

Korea, ranked first, is estimated to have 8.9 people per 1,000 population who have undergone plastic surgery.

It accounts for about 25% of the global aesthetic market.

According to the survey, about 25% of women aged 19 to 29 choose plastic surgery, and it is estimated that 20% to 33% of women in Seoul have undergone plastic surgery.

The procedures most commonly chosen by Koreans were double-eyelid surgery and nose surgery.

By contrast, Argentina, ranked second, has 8.81 people per 1,000 population, and popular procedures included breast augmentation and liposuction.

Brazil, in third place, had 7.62 people per 1,000 population who underwent plastic surgery.

The most popular procedures were liposuction and rhinoplasty.

Colombia, ranked fourth, has 7.26 people per 1,000 population.

Liposuction is also the most popular there, and breast augmentation and umbilical surgery are also said to be popular.

Greece, ranked fifth, has 6.33 people per 1,000 population choosing plastic surgery.

Popular procedures include breast augmentation, liposuction, eyelid correction, and Botox injections. The United States came in sixth, while Germany, Türkiye, Mexico, and Italy took 7th through 10th place.

Among East Asian countries, Japan ranked 14th, Taiwan 18th, and India took 20th place.

Among those who have experienced plastic surgery, most said they chose it because they were envious of other people's appearance,

and they often made the choice due to recommendations from people around them or discrimination caused by looks.

Many gave positive responses, saying it helped improve their confidence after surgery, and others said it helped with interpersonal relationships and with dating or job searching.
