Let’s Learn About Sore Throat and
Prevention

During seasonal changes with large temperature differences or in the cold winter months, sore throat symptoms such as a scratchy, swollen, or itchy throat can suddenly appear.
If you have a fever or pain so severe that it is difficult to swallow saliva, it may be due to inflammation in the throat area, so you should be careful.
Today, I will explain the symptoms and causes of pharyngitis, and also talk about how to prevent it.
Symptoms
Pharyngitis can occur due to bacterial and viral infection when immunity is lowered, and the bacteria that cause it are mainly influenza viruses and staphylococci.
At first, you may feel a foreign body sensation in the throat, along with a rough and dry feeling; in the early stage, it may be limited to a mild cough or some phlegm.
However, if the inflammation becomes severe, the symptoms worsen and sore throat pain occurs, along with high fever, swelling, general weakness, headache, and loss of appetite.

In addition, the tonsils may swell, and in severe cases, the lymph node area may also become swollen, and muscle pain may occur.
Most cases of pharyngitis improve with medication, but in people with significantly weakened immunity, it can also lead to other conditions such as pneumonia or bronchitis, so caution is needed.
If you have pharyngitis, it is good to get enough rest, and it also helps to drink fluids frequently to keep the dried-out throat moist.

Also, if the pain is so severe that it is difficult to swallow saliva, it is better to eat soft, gentle foods such as porridge or rice gruel.
To prevent pharyngitis, the first thing you should do is wear a mask when using crowded public facilities or public transportation.
You should always make handwashing a habit and be careful so that germs and viruses on your hands do not enter your body.

In winter, low humidity makes dryness easy to feel, so your throat may become scratchy and dry; in that case, it is good to use a humidifier to maintain proper indoor humidity.
Also, poor oral hygiene can cause bronchitis-like conditions such as pharyngitis and tonsillitis, so it is good to take thorough care of your oral health through brushing and mouthwash.
On days with heavy fine dust, harmful substances can increase the risk of infection by germs and viruses, so you should avoid going out if possible.

For smokers, smoking makes symptoms worse, so it is better to quit.
You should be careful because it can easily recur due to causes such as eating spicy foods, excessive drinking, overwork, or straining your throat.
Today, we looked at the symptoms, causes, and prevention methods for pharyngitis. I hope the information above helps you take care of your health.
