Whisky Shelf Life
How to Properly Store It

In recent years, with the creation of various brands, collaborations have become more common, and many products in the liquor category are now being promoted using characters.
There are even spirits made to highlight a region, and fairs that are easy to access are also held so people can enjoy better-tasting drinks.
Today, among those, I will give you a detailed explanation of whisky shelf life, proper storage methods, and ways to enjoy it more deliciously.

Alcohol containing ethanol is generally said to have its proof determined by the proportion of ethyl alcohol by volume at 15 degrees Celsius.
Many people enjoy drinking it for purposes such as relieving everyday stress, relaxation, reducing anxiety, and pleasure.
Among them, whisky has the advantage of being able to be stored for a long time, but it is recommended to drink whisky within 2 years after opening.

A clear shelf life for whisky is not well known yet, so it does not really exist, but unlike other types of liquor, it should not be bottled again.
If it is bottled again, the aging of the whisky stops, but even after opening, if it is stored properly, the flavor does not deteriorate even after several years.
For products with an alcohol content over 60 degrees, you should periodically turn the bottle upside down about three times so the liquid comes into contact with the cork stopper.

Even if it is a hard-to-find liquor, rather than leaving it untouched for a long time, enjoying it little by little in a glass is a better way to savor whisky.
It is best to keep it in its original box or an opaque container and place it somewhere protected from light.
Storing it in a dark place can prevent the whisky’s flavor and color from deteriorating in advance, and it should be stored carefully so that as little light as possible gets in.

Also, rather than storing whisky on its side, it is important to keep it standing upright at all times, regardless of whether the stopper has been opened.
If it is stored on its side, it will continue to come into contact with the cork stopper, which can cause changes in the components, and the likelihood of cork fragments getting into the whisky increases.
The higher the alcohol content, the greater the possibility of evaporation, so if the opening is not sealed carefully after opening, whisky shelf life may be shortened.

Because it has a high alcohol content, if it is unopened and stored properly, little change will be seen even after several years.
Once the stopper has been opened, even if it has a high alcohol content, the contact area with air increases and oxidation begins, making change more likely.
Therefore, if you want to enjoy it with the best flavor for a long time, be sure to take good care of it, and since excessive drinking can cause serious harm and accidents, please enjoy it in moderation.
