Accordingly, the number of people looking for whitening is also increasing.

If you think about it carefully, even people whose teeth were not yellow from childhood can, at some point in life, see that their teeth have become yellow.

The main reason teeth turn yellow is 'extrinsic discoloration.'

It occurs when foods containing dark pigments are eaten, or when staining molecules in nicotine from cigarettes adhere to the outer surface of the teeth.

Foods that cause this kind of extrinsic discoloration include coffee, green tea, chocolate, wine, cola, and cigarettes.

Depending on the cause, it can be divided into vital tooth whitening and non-vital tooth whitening.

1. Vital tooth whitening

works by breaking down the staining molecules on the outer surface of the teeth. A material containing hydrogen peroxide is applied to the outside of the teeth, and the active oxygen generated during the decomposition process removes the stains.

2. Non-vital tooth whitening

is used when discoloration occurs due to trauma or endo, and the material is placed in the tooth and the progress is observed according to the treatment cycle.

Also, depending on who performs it, there are two types: at-home and professional.

When doing it at home, you visit the hospital to have a custom tray made,

then apply the material and insert it onto the teeth, continuing the process consistently for about 4 to 6 hours every day.

However, when done by visiting Boramae Dental Clinic, it is performed by applying the material to the tooth surface and using strong light and heat,

usually taking about 30 minutes per session, and the teeth become sufficiently white.

If the discoloration is severe, or if you have an important event coming up, a short-term treatment is still enough.

To prevent teeth from yellowing afterward, it is good to quit smoking, avoid holding coffee and tea in the mouth for too long while drinking them, and use a straw so the drink does not pass over the teeth; after drinking, it is also good to rinse the mouth with bottled water.

Also, the effect does not last forever even if it is done once, and regular checkups every 6 to 12 months are helpful.

It is more severe toward the sides.

When looking at the shade guide, we could confirm a tone close to A3.

Whitening process

Treatment is carried out using a high-concentration whitening agent that is risky for patients to use.

Treatment method

1. After protecting the gums by covering them with a rubber dam, apply the medicine.

2. Using a special light, perform the procedure three times for 15 minutes each.

3. After thoroughly removing the medicine, check the change.

This is the process used, and sufficient consultation with the patient must be done in advance.

The overall tone of the intraoral teeth can be seen to have become brighter.
