Sinchon Onda Body Lifting,
Can It Also Help with Weight Loss?
Hello.
This is U&I Clinic, Hongdae Sinchon Branch.
“If I receive Onda lifting on my abdomen or arms,
will my weight decrease as well?”
This is a question frequently asked during consultations
by people looking into body treatments.
However, the changes expected from body Onda
are more focused on organizing the thickness of subcutaneous fat
and the surface of the skin in specific areas
than on reducing overall body weight.
This is because body weight and visceral fat,
subcutaneous fat that can be grasped by hand, and cellulite
may appear to be the same problem, but they are different.
Today, we will look at how these two goals differ,
and explain the effects that can be expected from body Onda
along with findings confirmed in research.

How is body Onda lifting
different from dieting?
Body weight is the combined value of the water, muscles, bones,
and overall body fat in the body.
It can vary depending not only on diet and activity levels
but also on hydration status.
There is also more than one reason
why the abdomen may appear protruded.

The subcutaneous fat just beneath the skin
may be thick,
or the proportion of visceral fat inside the abdominal cavity
may be high.
In some cases, the skin may have become loose after weight loss,
or cellulite may appear more prominent
because fibrous tissue and fat have become intertwined.
Onda uses 2.45 GHz microwave energy
to deliver heat to the tissue in the selected area.

The handpiece’s cooling system
reduces the heat burden on the skin’s surface during treatment,
and depending on the handpiece,
the target range can be adjusted to include
subcutaneous fat and fibrous tissue.
However, this energy
does not reduce visceral fat inside the abdominal cavity
or treat the metabolic issues
associated with obesity throughout the body.
If weight loss is the primary goal,
diet, exercise, and, when necessary,
medical obesity management are the foundation.
Even while continuing with that process,
if graspable fat remains in a specific area
or irregularities remain on the skin’s surface,
body Onda may be considered as one of the options.

What effects have been confirmed in research?
A study published in 2023
analyzed records after performing body microwave treatments
on 35 Colombian adults.

Research paper related to body Onda lifting
The participants included 32 women and 3 men,
with an average age of 47.5 years.

The treatment areas varied among participants,
including the abdomen, back, thighs, and arms,
and all participants received three treatments.
In addition to body weight and waist circumference,
the researchers measured skinfold thickness
by pinching the skin and subcutaneous fat together
with calipers.

Changes in skinfold thickness
Upper abdominal skinfold thickness
decreased from an average of 27.18 mm to 19.89 mm,
while abdominal skinfold thickness decreased
from 31.19 mm to 21.63 mm.
The iliac crest—the pelvic bone area at the sides of the waist—
also decreased from 37.38 mm to 26.81 mm.
Over the same period, the participants’ average body weight
decreased from 66.58 kg to 63.69 kg.
However, it is difficult to interpret these numbers
as evidence that Onda lifting reduced body weight.
This is because body composition measurements
that distinguish fat, muscle, and water
were not performed.
In addition, skinfold measurements are values obtained
by pinching the skin and subcutaneous fat together,
and do not show changes in visceral fat.
Ultimately, the key point shown by this study
is not a weight-loss effect,
but that the localized thickness of several areas
decreased compared with before treatment.

Treatment plans also differ depending on the area
The abdomen, arms, and thighs
differ in fat thickness, skin firmness,
the degree of cellulite, and laxity.
Even within the abdomen,
the upper abdomen, lower abdomen, and sides of the waist
may differ in the thickness that can be grasped by hand
and the direction of the contours.

Therefore, before treatment,
we assess how much can be grasped in each area
and whether fat, cellulite,
or skin laxity accounts for the larger proportion of the concern.
If subcutaneous fat that can be sufficiently grasped by hand
is the main concern,
we may first consider an approach focused on reducing
localized thickness.
On the other hand, if the abdomen appears protruded
but the layer that can be grasped is thin
and a higher proportion of visceral fat is suspected,
care focused on body weight and metabolic health
may need to come before a body treatment.
If skin laxity becomes more prominent after weight loss,
treatment aimed at improving firmness
may be needed or may be performed alongside treatment,
rather than focusing only on reducing fat volume.
The number of treatments or energy level
should also not be fixed from the outset.
Between sessions, it is more important to reassess
the thickness at the same location,
skin sensitivity, redness and warmth,
and recent changes in body weight
so that the next treatment area and settings can be adjusted.
If you have been looking into Sinchon Onda body lifting
for the purpose of weight loss,
first try separating your goals.
Whether your goal is to improve overall body weight
and metabolic health,
or to organize the subcutaneous fat and skin contours
that remain in a specific area
even after managing your weight,
the appropriate approach will differ.
Only by identifying what you want to reduce
can you establish a specific treatment area and plan
that suit your body.
