They say today is an unprecedented cold wave.
I hope everyone is doing well.
“Doctor, my teeth aren’t pretty, so I feel self-conscious every time I smile.”
This is one of the most common things I hear in consultations.
The patient who came in today was also more concerned about
losing confidence because of the shape of their teeth than about pain or functional problems.
The issue was not the size of the teeth, but the proportions.
The teeth were long and narrow, and there were gaps between them, so the overall impression felt somewhat sharp.
In cases like this, design that takes into account the face shape, lip line, and amount of gum exposure is much more important. And the patient wanted them to be very white and noticeable.
A case that could be improved without much reduction
Fortunately, the alignment of the teeth and the bite were in a stable condition.
So I determined that it could be improved sufficiently with laminate veneers
without orthodontics or major reduction.
The three points I considered most important were:
-
Alignment of the midline of the front teeth
-
The golden ratio between tooth length and width
-
The curve of the teeth visible when smiling (Smile line)
The phrase the patient emphasized most was this:
I want it to look natural, but I hope other people notice it!!!
I designed them to look as if they had always been pretty, white teeth.

It was a rewarding day again today.
Well then, off I go.
