Sunscreen that’s confusing even when you know about it
I’ll explain the sun protection ratings SPF and PA+
Hello, this is J-Fill Clinic, which pursues the prettiest feeling. 🌸
In spring, and soon approaching summer.
Have you ever heard that 80% of skin aging is caused by UV rays?
UV rays do more than just darken the skin;
they destroy collagen, reduce elasticity,
and are a major cause of photoaging such as melasma, blemishes, and wrinkles.

Today, from OBS’s “Oh! My Beautiful Life” broadcast,
we’d like to share the importance of sun protection,
which our CEO doctor Lee Yong-seok emphasized.

The problems that happen if you don’t protect your skin from UV rays
During the broadcast, the CEO doctor mentioned sunscreen as one of the must-have items
he always carries in his bag.
UV rays do more than simply tan the skin;
they destroy collagen, reduce elasticity,
and can cause pigmentation, photoaging,
and in severe cases, even increase the risk of skin cancer.
Especially on days when the UV index is high like it is lately,
not only melasma and blemishes but also invisible damage deep in the skin
progresses quickly.

The sunscreen-use tips emphasized by the CEO doctor
✔ Apply 15–30 minutes before going outside, as the last step of your basic skincare routine
✔ Reapply every 2–3 hours
✔ Be thorough not only on the face, but also the neck, ears, and body
✔ Use it every day, even on cloudy days and indoors!
Which sunscreen should you use?
SPF 30–50, PA+++ or higher
Use an organic sunscreen, mineral sunscreen,
or a hybrid sunscreen that suits your skin type.
The SPF and PA ratings can vary depending on your activity environment.
But many people also get confused about what these numbers and grades mean.

Depending on wavelength, UV rays
are divided into UVA (ultraviolet A), UVB (ultraviolet B), and UVC (ultraviolet C),
and among these, UVC is mostly blocked by the ozone layer.
UVA passes through glass and penetrates deep into the dermis,
while UVB can cause redness, burns, and freckles in a short time.

PA rating: an indicator of UVA protection,
the more + signs there are, the more effective it is at preventing aging.
SPF rating: an indicator of UVB protection; the higher the number,
the longer it helps protect the skin from UV rays.
💡 Not only on sunny days, but even on cloudy days,
UV rays can affect the skin,
so daily sun protection in everyday life is basic care that should be practiced every day.
