Dry Skin
These days, with the wind feeling cold in the mornings and evenings, while warm weather repeats during the day,
many people find their skin feeling especially tight and stinging during the seasonal transition.
When skin becomes dry, the skin barrier can weaken, so regular moisturizing care is important.
Since simple dryness and internal dryness are different, careful care is especially needed during seasonal changes.

What is dry skin?
Dry skin refers to a condition in which the skin lacks moisture by 10% or more below normal.
To maintain healthy skin, an appropriate balance of moisture and oil must be maintained, but when this balance is disrupted for any reason,
the skin can become dry and rough.
Mild cases may involve tightness and roughness, while severe cases may also be accompanied by flaking and itching.

What symptoms appear?
With dry skin, the skin feels tight and rough.
White flakes may appear, or in severe cases, you may see dead skin falling onto clothing.
The degree of dryness can be uncomfortable enough to notice.
In particular, itching and prickling sensations may occur, and scratching can make the skin red or even cause wounds.

Why extra caution is needed during seasonal changes
During seasonal changes, the skin condition can become more sensitive.
As temperatures drop sharply, the humidity in the air also decreases, so moisture in the skin can easily evaporate into the outside air.
Indoors, when heating is used, the air becomes dry and the skin continues to lose moisture.
Especially during seasonal changes, external irritants such as fine dust, pollen, and yellow dust also increase, making the skin barrier more likely to be damaged and causing the skin to become more sensitive to irritation.

How should dry skin be managed?
Prevention and care for dry skin are very important.
You can start with simple lifestyle habits.
✔ You can start by changing your shower habits.
Hot water can make the skin even drier, so a shower with lukewarm water for less than 10 minutes is recommended.
Scrubbing off dead skin or rubbing too hard can also damage the skin barrier and make it drier.
Rather than cleansers with strong fragrance or lots of foam, gentle types that help maintain the skin’s protective barrier are better.

✔ It is recommended to moisturize quickly and frequently.
After showering, while the skin still retains moisture, apply a generous amount of moisturizer within 3 minutes.
Applying it 2 to 3 times a day is even more helpful.
✔ Keeping indoor humidity around 40–60% is best.
To prevent the environment from becoming too dry, you can use a humidifier or hang damp laundry such as wet towels nearby.

If you keep scratching, or if the skin becomes red or oozes,
it may not be simple dryness but dermatitis or another condition, so a diagnosis may be needed in severe cases.
It is also recommended to check whether the products you use often contain ingredients that suit dry skin.
