The case we’ll look at today is a retreatment root canal for a male patient in his 20s.

He came to me because the treatment he had 10 years ago

somehow felt uncomfortable.

After taking a CT scan, we could see that inflammation had developed

in the root-canaled tooth in the upper right.

When the cause is inside the tooth,

inflammation is usually seen as a round shadow near the root tip.

After carefully analyzing the CT,

we were able to confirm that there was an area missed

in the previous root canal treatment.

After finding and cleaning the missed area,

the trapped pus can be seen bursting out through the tooth

like a fountain.

The pressure and discomfort around the tooth and cheek,

for which there had been no clear reason, will go away.

After several rounds of disinfection and cleaning,

the root canal treatment was carefully completed.

From the head to the tip, it was sealed without a single gap.

The final step of root canal treatment is a strong crown.

The chewing surface must be firmly protected with a crown

so that the inside of the tooth does not become infected again

or fracture.

When about 6 months had passed after the treatment,

the patient returned for a regular checkup.

We could confirm that the area around the root had become clean.

Average life expectancy is gradually increasing,

and implants do not last forever either.

If possible, using your natural teeth for as long as possible

is the wise choice.
