Hello. I am Kim Hyung-taek, the representative director of Kowon Plastic Surgery Clinic, who puts sincerity into rhinoplasty.
Today’s answer note is the Japanese edition, and it is a question about hump nose.
A person with a high nasal bridge who wants improvement because of a hump nose sent in a question, asking whether removing only the hump nose part would cause an awkward look or a bumpy contour as a side effect.
Today, I am sharing the answer to that question.

Q. My nasal bridge is high, but I have a hump nose. If only the hump part is shaved down, will it become uneven?
My nasal bridge is originally high, and I have a hump nose. I really dislike the hump nose, but if I only shave down the hump, will a step form in the nasal bridge and make it bumpy?
At a consultation at another clinic, I was recommended an implant or Alloderm for the shaved hump area.
Also, when shaving down a hump nose, is osteotomy and narrowing needed? My nasal bridge is not thick and is average... I would like to hear your opinion. Thank you.

First, since I have not seen the actual nose shape, there are some limitations to my answer, so please understand.
In general, a hump nose refers to a condition in which the part where the bone and cartilage are connected in the middle portion of the nasal bridge protrudes.
Therefore, simply shaving down the protruding hump nose does not create a step, so there is no need to fill the shaved hump area. Rather, the nasal bridge will be expressed as looking smooth instead of uneven.
However, if the nose tip is raised at the same time as the hump is shaved down, a step may form between the hump and the nose tip.
In such cases, the step may be filled so that the area from the hump nose to the nose tip appears smooth.
Also, people with a hump nose usually already have a nasal bridge that is somewhat high, so in many cases a silicone implant is not used. But if you want to raise the nasal bridge further, a silicone implant will be needed.
Although this is a surgery that narrows the nasal bone by osteotomy, osteotomy is not always necessary. If the nasal bone is bent or if the nasal bone is excessively developed and wide to the sides, osteotomy may be performed together.

First, since I have not seen the actual shape of the nose, there are limits to explaining it in detail, but I will answer using a general case as an example.
A hump nose refers to a shape in which the part where the bone and cartilage are connected in the middle section of the nasal bridge protrudes.
Therefore, simply shaving down the hump nose does not create a step, so there is no need to fill in the shaved hump area. Rather, the nasal bridge will be expressed as smoother rather than bumpy.
However, if you shave down the hump nose while also raising the nose tip, a step may form between the hump and the nose tip. In such cases, the step may be filled to create a smooth line from the hump nose to the nose tip.
And people with a hump nose usually have a nasal bridge that is already somewhat high, so in many cases a silicone implant is not used. But if you want to make the nasal bridge higher, a silicone implant is needed.
As for osteotomy and narrowing, it does not mean that osteotomy is always required. If the nasal bone is crooked or if the nasal bone is excessively developed and wide to the sides, osteotomy may be performed together.
