Hello~
I’m Director Jang Taehyeon of Seoul Bardi Dental Clinic.
The scariest thing about gum disease is that there is no warning.
It slowly and gradually destroys the gums,
and by the time you notice symptoms and visit, it is often already severe.
If you feel like your gums are collapsing at a dental clinic in Godeok-dong, it may already be too late.
By the time the patient becomes aware of it, the problem has already happened~
Let’s take a look at today’s patient!!

My gums feel like they’ve collapsed,
and it feels like my teeth are sinking down.
My gums have been swollen on and off for a long time.
When people have gum problems, they often say they feel sensitivity or swelling,
but they also often say things like the gums are sinking or collapsing.
That is an accurate description~
We often compare the jawbone supporting the gums to the internal structure of a building,
and if it gets damaged, it can collapse all at once,
so it makes sense that it feels that way.

The patient said their gums had been swelling from time to time for a while.
Even in the X-ray taken when they visited the Godeok-dong dental clinic in 2021,
the problematic areas were visible.
They had been sending warning signs since then..
Looking at the records, after one scaling treatment there were no further dental visitsㅠㅠ
So when they came in after feeling the symptom of gum collapse,
the condition had become so severe that it was beyond repair.
Patients only come when they are in pain and the situation is serious,
which is very upsetting.

There was also a large pimple-like swelling inside the mouth.
A situation where pus is pouring out

We took a CT scan.
Compared with the surrounding teeth,
you can see that the bone has sunk in.
The jawbone around the gums had been eaten awayㅠ
You need bone to place an implant,
but there was no bone visible that could be used.
First, we decided to build a foundation with bone grafting,
and then proceed with implant surgery at the Godeok-dong dental clinic.
230329
First, the tooth was extracted and the masses of inflammation were removed,
then bone grafting was performed in a clean environment.
Even at that point, the traces of bone loss at the extracted site were still clearly visible~~
230529
About two months later, the patient visited the Godeok-dong dental clinic
to check whether the bone had filled in well.
You can see that it is gradually filling in and healing.
They asked, “Why does it take so long for the jawbone to form~?”
In construction terms, it’s the same as pouring concrete.
The cement has to harden, right~
The jawbone also has to become firm before implant placement is possible.
230529
The CT also clearly shows traces of the bone graft.
However, it was still insufficient,
so we waited another two months.
If you feel the symptom of your gums collapsing,
it is serious~
The jawbone collapsing happens in an instant,
but recovery takes re~ally a long time.

Two months later, the patient returned to the Godeok-dong dental clinic.
Even then, surgery could not be performed.
We waited another two months.
After only the bone graft, we waited six months~
The implant still had not even been placedㅠㅠ
230915
Finally, it was placed.
After a long, long time,
and after waiting six months,
if there is too little jawbone,
patients become exhausted before surgery can even be completedㅠㅠ
It takes so long
240102
After placing it in September, this time the implant had
to properly integrate with the bone that had been created.
We waited an additional three months.
Nine months had passed since the problem was noticed and treatment began,
and the tooth was finally restored.

The red arrow indicates the implant prosthesis.
It looks so natural, doesn’t it~?
I thought our patients might not realize at all that it was an implanted tooth,
so I marked it for you.
It was a long nine-month journey.
Fortunately, the lower jawbone was solid,
so the bone damage was not severe,
but the upper teeth are a different story.
The bone is originally weaker and thinner,
and because it is close to the maxillary sinus,
once a problem occurs, recovery takes a long time.

Please don’t go through this much trouble.
If inflammation keeps recurring in the gums,
or even if it seems like there is no problem,
please visit the dentist at least once every six months.
Thank you!
