Hello.
I’m Director Yoon Tae-ho of Seoul Bardi Dental Clinic.
“Just losing one tooth, and it feels more inconvenient than I expected....”
Many patients say this after losing a tooth.
Especially in the case of front teeth, even losing just one tooth affects not only eating, but also pronunciation, appearance, and confidence.
But fortunately,
there is an implant procedure that can restore missing teeth.
Today, this post will be helpful for patients who are facing surgery for the first time, as it explains what an implant is
and how the procedure is carried out.
A complete summary of the implant procedure. Would you like to experience it indirectly?
Please follow along step by step!!

Implants, a treatment that replaces natural teeth
There are various ways to replace a missing tooth.
Among them, when people talk about implants,
it is because they are the closest to natural teeth
and can restore function.

Please refer to the post linked above about bridge treatment, which was used as a replacement before implants existed.
What is an implant procedure?
The root portion of a missing tooth is called an implant.

An implant that replaces the root function is placed into the jawbone,
and an artificial tooth is attached on top of it.
Once it firmly fuses with the jawbone,
it provides strong support.
To the point that there is no problem at all with chewing or tasting.
Then, starting now,
I’ll explain the implant procedure in an easy-to-understand way.
The implant procedure does not end in one day.
It is carried out through several stages.
Among them, the most important first step is a precise diagnosis and sufficient consultation.

The current oral condition must be accurately understood,
and overall physical health is also an important factor.
At this stage, gum health, the amount and quality of the jawbone, and other factors are checked through X-rays and interviews.
Once the initial diagnosis is complete,
the next step is the actual placement procedure.

After anesthesia, the gums are incised,
and if the gums are firm enough, a flapless approach may also be performed.
After placing the implant into the jawbone,
bone grafting may be performed if needed.
If there is insufficient jawbone, bone grafting may be done first.
(Think of it as the process of laying a solid foundation.)
After that, you wait for the period of “osseointegration,”
when the implant firmly bonds with the jawbone.
This usually takes about 3 to 6 months.
(The waiting period may vary depending on the condition of the bone.)
Once it is confirmed that osseointegration has been firmly established,
you can move on to the stage of making the prosthetic.

This is the process of creating the artificial tooth that you can actually eat with.
At this stage, it is not simply about reproducing the shape.
It is carefully designed while considering harmony with the surrounding teeth and even the color.
Once the prosthetic is placed, is it over...?
Absolutely not.
The end, and also the beginning, of the implant procedure depends on how well it is maintained.
Because how you care for it determines how many years you can use it.

First, regular checkups are essential.
At first, it will be checked one month later,
and after that, the interval gradually increases to 3 months, 6 months, and 1 month.
Whether the area where the implant opening was filled is still firmly attached,
whether the screw has come loose,
and whether there is any inflammation.
Consultation -> procedure -> maintenance
I hope you will remember that the implant procedure must be connected from start to finish
in order to use it comfortably for a long time.
The closest alternative to natural teeth, implants.
Through proper treatment and care, I hope you can maintain a healthy and energetic oral life.
This was Director Yoon Tae-ho of Seoul Bardi Dental Clinic.
Thank you.
