Hello,
I’m Lee Juri, Chief Director of Seoul Vardi Dental Clinic.
“Since this is my first implant… I don’t even know what happens first.”
I get this kind of question a lot.
Even after explaining things before starting,
people still often ask,
What are we doing today?
That’s completely understandable~
When people hesitate to get treatment because of vague fear and pressure,
once they understand the process,
it turns out to be surprisingly simple
and comfortable to go through.
Today, I’ll organize the entire process from the first implant consultation to the completion of the prosthetic,
from A to Z!
Please follow along through the Sangil-dong implant surgery process from start to finish!

- First Visit, Examination & Condition Diagnosis
If you visit the dental clinic in Sangil-dong,
the first step is a detailed diagnosis!
We check the condition of the jawbone
and whether there is any systemic medical history.
We take intraoral photos
and X-ray images as well!
230622
-
Panoramic X-ray
-
3D CT scan (to check bone thickness and height)
-
Intraoral photos and gum condition examination
-
Health status and medical history check
If there is not enough jawbone, we explain that bone grafting is needed.

- Treatment Plan Establishment
Based on the diagnosis, we establish a specific plan.
At this point, the treatment period and method are also determined roughly.
221214
-
Decide how many implants to place and which method to use
-
Determine whether extraction is needed and whether immediate placement is possible
-
Decide whether bone grafting or a sinus lift is needed
For example...
Whether to perform only bone grafting first after extraction,
or whether the procedure can be done at the same time as extraction.
Also, we can decide whether to use a digital method such as navigation implants.
After 충분한 consultation, if the patient agrees,
the actual surgery is performed.

- Implant Placement Surgery
-
Local anesthesia, then incision of the gums
-
Placement of the implant fixture into the bone
-
Bone grafting performed if needed
-
Suturing and recovery
The actual surgery time is around 1 hour.
Because it is performed after anesthesia,
the pain is not severe.
If the jawbone is sufficient, surgery can be done using a flapless method,
without cutting the gums!
- Healing Period (Osseointegration)
Because the implant is placed into the bone,
a period of firm integration is necessary before it can be used for chewing.
In general, the upper jaw takes 4–6 months,
and the lower jaw takes 2–3 months.
We check regularly every month to see whether it has bonded firmly,
and once it has sufficiently integrated with the bone, we move on to the impression-taking step.

- Prosthetic Stage
We fabricate the abutment that connects the implant and the prosthetic,
and take an impression of the prosthetic that will go on top of the abutment.
At this stage, a method such as an intraoral scanner is used,
so the patient can take the impression comfortably.
241019
-
Fabrication of the prosthetic after impression taking
-
Placement of the artificial tooth (crown)
-
Adjustment of the bite and chewing force

- Start of Care & Regular Checkups
This is not the end.
The real start is from here.
To use an implant for a long time,
you also need to manage it carefully.
So that inflammation does not occur in the surrounding gums.
We also explain the auxiliary tools so you can manage it yourself at home,
and we schedule regular appointments!
-
Instruction on how to use interdental brushes and dental floss
-
Prevention and maintenance for peri-implantitis
-
Scaling and checkups every 3–6 months
Today, I explained the Sangil-dong implant surgery process
in the order from start to finish.
Is the process a little more familiar now~?
Implant treatment is absolutely not something that should be started recklessly.
Once it has been placed,
it is difficult to change the diagnosis,
and every step must be followed one by one!
I hope today’s post was helpful in deciding on Sangil-dong implant surgery.
If you have any questions, please leave a comment!
