Hello~
I’m Lee Juri, Chief Director of Seoul Bardi Dental Clinic.
Invisalign is known as clear orthodontic treatment.
Because this idea has come to be taken for granted,
when people hear that wires are attached to the teeth during the finishing stage of orthodontic treatment, they are surprised.
“I thought clear orthodontics meant there were no wires at all…?”
But there is one hidden truth here.
Clear orthodontic treatment does not always end with a treatment process that is 100% only clear appliances.
Especially in the final stage of important orthodontic treatment,
wires are sometimes used.
Today, I’ll explain the reason why wires are attached in the finishing stage of Invisalign treatment—something that seems obvious once you know it, but is not widely known.
Even Invisalign clear orthodontics in Godeok-dong can use wires.
These days, there are hardly any people who do not know Invisalign.
Among the patients who come in for orthodontic consultations in Godeok-dong, 8 out of 10 say they want clear orthodontic treatment.
Because it is a transparent plastic appliance,
it has the advantage of being removable,
and it is appealing that the teeth move
while it looks almost like nothing is being done.

So many people think this way.
“Invisalign doesn’t use wires,
so it’s less uncomfortable and better cosmetically.”
That is not wrong.
But it is not the whole truth either.
Invisalign does not finish the entire orthodontic process using only clear appliances.
Invisalign basically moves the teeth by wearing clear appliances in sequence,
without wires or brackets.
However, in the finishing stage of treatment,
wires may also be attached
for very small, invisible precision adjustments.
Mini screws can also be placed if needed, 230909.
In particular, there can be limitations in the following cases.
- When the teeth are severely tipped over
- When the position of the tooth roots needs to be adjusted in detail
- When slight rotation of the teeth remains
- When the front teeth are aligned with asymmetrical angulation
For clear orthodontic treatment in Godeok-dong, patients need to wear the appliance for more than 20 hours,
but even if they wear it for the recommended time,
there are cases where the teeth do not move properly because the bone is hard or for other reasons.
In such cases, it is difficult to move the teeth precisely to the desired position with clear aligners alone,
so wires are attached for a very short period to make fine adjustments.

They are used for a short period of about 1–2 months.
The important point is that this wire orthodontic step is not starting over from the beginning,
but rather a correction process to refine orthodontic treatment that is already in the final stage even more perfectly.
It is common for tooth movement to be less than expected,
or for slight angle adjustments to be needed.
In fact, there can be small discrepancies between Invisalign’s predicted results and the actual oral condition,
so a form of “tweezers-like” fine orthodontic adjustment may be needed to compensate for this.
At this time, small brackets are attached to only some teeth,
and thin wires are used to guide the teeth in the desired direction.

It’s not that the treatment went wrong,
it means it is actually being done even better
Many people are surprised when they are told that wires will be attached briefly.
“I’m worried—is something wrong?”
“Then maybe I should have started with regular braces from the beginning…” are reactions we often hear.
But in reality, it is the opposite.
It is a process used to finish the treatment more accurately,
and to achieve a better result.
It is a step taken to create a perfect outcome.
Even Invisalign clear orthodontics in Godeok-dong can borrow the power of wires for a short while!
Because I want a beautiful finish all the way to the end,
I want to be particular about the details.
This has been Dr. Juri Lee, Chief Director.
Thank you!
