Hello.
I’m the director of Seoul Bardi Dental Clinic.
Many people think implants are a treatment done after middle age.
But these days, many patients in their 20s also come in for treatment.
In many cases, they have lost a tooth due to an accident,
or the cause is untreated cavities.
The problem is that they put it off, thinking, “I’m still young, so it’ll be fine,”
and then end up spending more than twice as much on treatment in their 30s or 40s.
Today, I’ll explain why you should not miss the right time for an implant
in your 20s,
and I’ll share a real case.

Problems That Can Occur If You Miss the Timing for an Implant in Your 20s

You may think, “I’m not uncomfortable right now, so can’t I just get the implant later?”
I get this question a lot after extraction.
But if you leave a missing tooth alone,
it can lead to bigger problems than you might expect.
- The area where the tooth is missing
loses bone over time.
It’s like how muscles that aren’t used gradually weaken.

As more bone is lost,
the space available for placing an implant becomes insufficient.
Then additional bone grafting is needed,
and the treatment period becomes longer.
Of course, the cost also increases by 2 to 3 times.
- The neighboring teeth tilt,
and the bite becomes misaligned.

When a gap appears, the teeth on both sides
begin to tilt toward it.

Teeth that used to fit together above and below
also move down or up toward the empty space.

Then the overall bite structure collapses,
and it can even lead to temporomandibular joint problems.
In this situation, what should have been solved with just one implant
turns into a chain of problems.
And the treatment cost follows along too...
A Real Case of an Implant Completed in 2 Months

A patient in their mid-20s came in recently.
They said the gum around the lower right molar kept swelling
and hurting.
When I checked, there was a bump on the gum that looked like a pimple.

The root canal treatment had already been completed,
but on the X-ray,
the tooth root had severe inflammation.

When we took a CT scan, the bone loss had progressed more than expected.
20602
I know better than anyone that nothing is more comfortable or better than my own tooth,
so I prioritize saving natural teeth,
but
because the inflammation had already spread so much,
the tooth could not be saved in this condition.
Unfortunately, I explained the situation to the patient
and recommended extraction followed by an implant.
The patient was studying abroad,
so they wanted treatment as quickly as possible.
For a patient with an underlying systemic disease, with this level of inflammation and bone loss,
it would have taken at least 3 months or more.
However, the patient was in their 20s and healthy without any systemic disease,
so we could expect a good outcome.
That is, provided that the inflammation was thoroughly removed
and bone grafting was performed carefully.
So that there would be no problems even after going abroad,
we took extra care and analyzed the case multiple times.
250602
On the same day as the extraction, we placed the implant immediately along with bone grafting.
Immediate placement like this helps minimize bone loss.
250715
It was placed at the correct angle and position.
250715
When the patient came back two months later,
we checked whether the implant had integrated well with the bone.
Whether the bone and implant have integrated well is
not something you judge by eye, but something measured numerically with a device.
At Seoul Bardi Dental Clinic,
we use an “Ostell” device to check the exact numbers.

When the value is above 70,
it means successful implant stability.
When we checked with the device,
the result was 75, which was quite high, even above normal.
250725
We completed the prosthetic restoration right away.
Total treatment period: 2 months.
The patient was very satisfied
because it finished much faster than expected.
Before: 250602 / After: 250725
What if this patient had endured the pain
and delayed treatment for another 1 or 2 years?
Of course, everyone is different,
so it won’t be the same for everyone.
For some people, the condition may remain exactly as it was at the beginning.
But you can never be 100% sure that will happen to you either.
In many actual cases,
the teeth tilt, the inflammation spreads further,
and the area requiring bone grafting becomes much larger.
When a problem occurs
and you keep putting it off,
it eventually becomes something you regret later ㅠㅠ
If you have tooth pain or any unusual symptoms,
don’t delay.
I’ll help you protect your healthy 20s.
Thank you.
