Hello,
I am the director of Seoul Bardi Dental Clinic.
When I talk with patients who come in with concerns about their front teeth,
8 out of 10 of them
have a fear of "laminate side effects."
They worry things like,
"Once it’s shaved down, it can’t be reversed..."
"What if I have sensitive teeth for the rest of my life?"
Those are the kinds of concerns they have.
Even from a dentist’s perspective,
there are many frightening reviews online.

But what I really want to say is this:
laminate treatment itself is not the problem,
it is the process of forcing too much tooth reduction
that creates side effects.
Today, I’ll explain why so many people suffer from side effects such as
sensitive teeth,
and how our clinic is addressing that problem.
- Causes of laminate side effects: tooth sensitivity
Sangil-dong Station Laminate
The reason teeth become so sensitive after laminate treatment
that even cold water is hard to drink is clear.
On the outermost surface of our teeth,
there is a very hard protective layer
that shields the nerves: "enamel."

But if this enamel is shaved down too much
in order to create a pretty shape,
and the work gets too close to the sensitive inner nerve,
then even small stimulation can
cause sharp, painful sensitivity.
That is why I follow the principle of "minimal reduction."
Minimal reduction
What matters here is not
"never shaving anything down at all."
For laminate to adhere firmly to the tooth
and last a long time,
a very slight refinement of the tooth surface
is often necessary.
However, that scope must stay within the enamel,
which is the hard protective layer,
and that is the key to preventing sensitivity.
- Case of discolored front-tooth resin and correction of peg-shaped teeth with minimal reduction
Sangil-dong Station Laminate: Why do some people experience side effects while others stay fine for over 10 years?
Let me share a case of a patient who recently visited our clinic.
241102
The resin treatment that had previously been done to fill the space between the front teeth
had become darkly discolored over time.
Example of another patient case) old resin, discolored state
Because of the nature of resin materials,
color changes and rough borders can easily develop over time,
and even though the patient felt significant aesthetic stress,
they had postponed treatment for years because of fear of tooth reduction.
After a precise diagnosis,
fortunately, this patient had fairly even tooth alignment,
and we were able to greatly reduce the amount of tooth reduction needed.
We carefully removed the old discolored resin,
241102
and proceeded with a "minimal reduction" approach,
where only the outer surface of the teeth was refined very slightly
so the laminate could be stronger and last longer.

Because the adjustment was done within a healthy range
without touching the nerves at all,
the patient was able to regain a natural smile
that felt just like their own teeth,
without discomfort from sensitivity after treatment.

- A digital system and in-house lab that catch 0.1 mm errors
Sangil-dong Station Laminate: Why do some people experience side effects while others stay fine for over 10 years?
The secret to reducing tooth reduction
while still producing strong results
is precision.
If even a small error occurs,
the tooth may look protruded,
or the restoration may come off easily.
Instead of taking an impression by having a sticky material held in the mouth,
Seoul Bardi Dental Clinic uses an oral scanner
for digital impressions.
The conventional rubber impression method is sensitive to temperature, humidity, saliva, and more,
so it is difficult to take an accurate impression,

which means errors can occur when making the restoration.
However, the digital impression method with an oral scanner
uses light to precisely read the curves of the teeth down to 0.1 mm,
allowing a low-error design.

In addition, when patients say,
"Taking impressions used to make me gag,
but now I just have to open my mouth and stay still,
which is so comfortable,"
it makes me feel that although it was expensive to purchase,
I made a good choice for the sake of our patients.^^
- "Come back a week after taking the impression~"
No, we place it the same day.
Sangil-dong Station Laminate, side effects
The precise digital data from the impression
is sent immediately to our dedicated in-house lab,
where I personally discuss the prosthetic details
with the lab director in real time
and the restoration is made right there on the spot.

Thanks to this precise process,
if you come in the morning,
we can place the new teeth by the afternoon the same day,
making a "1-Day system" possible,

and reducing the risk of bacterial contamination or loss
that can happen while wearing temporary teeth.
- I’ll be honest.
Sangil-dong Station Laminate: Why do some people experience side effects while others stay fine for over 10 years?
Not everyone can be solved with "minimal reduction."
If the teeth protrude forward noticeably
or the alignment is severely irregular,
what happens if we add material
without doing almost any reduction?
The teeth can become too thick,
which can make the appearance unnatural
and may harm gum health.
In such cases, appropriate reduction to correct the tooth position
may be necessary,
or orthodontic treatment may need to come first.
If we are thinking about your dental health 10 years from now,
I believe the true role of a specialist is
to honestly say, "This is not possible" when it is not appropriate.
In truth, I know very well that replacing a tooth
is not an easy decision.
You probably spent a long time hesitating,
wondering whether it would put too much strain on your teeth
or whether the cost would be too much.
Because I wanted to lower that threshold of hesitation even a little,
for this New Year we decided to temporarily ease the financial burden until March 31.
2026.01.01~2026.03.31
I hope this becomes an "opportunity" for those who have only been worried about the cost
to gather the courage to at least come in for a consultation.
You do not have to decide on treatment right away.
Instead of worrying alone and sighing,
I hope we can look together at the safest method,
and find the answers one by one.
With your dental health as the top priority,
we will help you find the most honest path together.
Thank you.
