Hello.
I’m the director of Seoul Bar Di Dental Clinic.
When treating dental patients,
there are moments that can be quite difficult.
When a patient comes in with a broken tooth,
"If we just fill it a little, that should be enough, right?"
you may ask.

Front tooth chipping treatment cost: If you don’t want to waste money at the dentist anymore?
From my perspective, a crown treatment
is sometimes the correct answer.
You might think, "Isn’t that overtreatment?"
Even so, there is only one reason I
recommend a crown.
It is because the "lifespan of the treatment" is at stake.
If you keep repeating fillings without knowing the cause,
in the end, repeated fractures will only make the treatment cost grow like a snowball.
Today, through a case of a patient who came in with a front tooth fracture,
I’ll tell you the real reason why I’m so focused on the cause called "occlusion."
If you are considering front tooth treatment,
please read this article to the end.
Case of a male patient in his 50s who came in with a molar fracture
Front tooth chipping treatment cost: You need to know the cause of the breakage first.
Two years ago,
this patient first visited our clinic.
At the time, it was not the front teeth but
a molar that had broken.

Looking inside the mouth, I saw that
many of the teeth were generally worn down.
That is evidence that the biting force (masticatory force)
is much stronger than average.
231019
"Patient, you usually enjoy hard foods, right?"
When I asked, he said that was indeed the case.
The broken molar was carefully treated with an inlay,
but what caught my attention even more was the front teeth,
which were already beginning to chip little by little.
231019
Looking closely,
his upper and lower front teeth had an "edge-to-edge bite" structure,
where the tips of the teeth met directly head-on.
Because the front teeth were colliding directly,
it looked very risky.
231019
If he continued to enjoy hard foods as he did then,
it was obvious that the front teeth would not be able to withstand the pressure.
So at that time, I gave the patient a special warning.
I strongly urged him to avoid hard foods so his teeth would not deteriorate any further.
I still remember telling him that very earnestly.
A concern that became reality,
with the patient eventually returning with a front tooth fracture
Front tooth chipping treatment cost: You need to know the cause of the breakage first.
Two years later, as expected,
the patient returned with three front teeth (#12, 21, 42) broken.
251208
The upper and lower front teeth had chipped away
much more than before.

Why do healthy natural teeth keep breaking?
The cause is the structural limitation of the
"edge-to-edge bite" I mentioned earlier.
A normal bite has the upper teeth
covering the lower teeth, which absorbs impact.
Normal bite where the upper teeth cover the lower teeth
But in an edge-to-edge bite, the sharp tips of the teeth
collide head-on with a loud "bang!" every time.
Appearance of a fractured tooth due to edge-to-edge bite
The powerful impact applied every time he chewed
had been accumulating only at the tips of the teeth for more than 50 years.
In the end, the front teeth could no longer withstand the load
and began to chip away little by little.
Why wasn’t "resin" the right answer?
Front tooth chipping treatment cost: You need to know the cause of the breakage first.
The patient asked again this time,
"Can’t you just fill it a little?"
But this time, I firmly said no.
Doing resin treatment now
would be like pouring water into a bottomless bucket.
The reason is very simple.
It is because of the "lever principle."
Resin is attached to the outer surface of the tooth.
But what happens when you bite food
with the tip of the front tooth?
Front tooth chipping treatment cost: If you don’t want to waste money at the dentist anymore?
The moment you bite,
the lower teeth strongly push the resin outward.
No matter how firmly it is bonded,
the resin cannot withstand repeated impact
and will eventually break again.
From the patient’s perspective, it means a treatment
that should have ended in one visit gets repeated two or three times.
In the end, time is spent twice,
and the cost doubles,
which creates a regrettable situation.
The reason I recommend a definite crown
rather than a temporary filling treatment,
is because I want to prevent this kind of unnecessary hardship
and wasted cost.
It’s not just a cover-up; it changes the structure.
Front tooth chipping treatment cost: You need to know the cause of the breakage first.
The key to this treatment
was a structural design that reduced the risk of fracture.
A structure where the upper and lower tips meet
cannot be withstood by any prosthetic.

So I focused on finding the optimal angle
that would not collide with the lower teeth.
The upper teeth need to slightly cover the lower teeth
so that the chewing force is distributed.
251224
The side teeth were easier to adjust in angle
because both the upper and lower teeth could be treated together,
but the biggest challenge was the front central incisors.
If I only thought about appearance, they would break again;
if I only thought about structure, they would look protruded...
I had to achieve both aesthetics and function.
251208 (Before) 251224 (After)
So while aligning the arrangement harmoniously with the side teeth,
I also made fine angle adjustments so that it would not collide head-on with the lower teeth.
I preserved the beautiful shape
and clearly reduced the risk of fracture.
Thanks to that, he is still using them well without any major issues.^^

Do fillings you had done before keep falling out,
or do you feel like your teeth are chipping little by little?
Then now you need to carefully
look into the exact cause first.
As with this patient,
whether it is a structural problem with the teeth,
or a habit of eating that you were not even aware of,
it is truly important to examine each factor carefully.
If you keep repeating patchwork treatment without knowing the cause,
you end up in a regrettable situation where time is spent and treatment costs double.
Don’t worry anymore about "when will it break again?"
I will work with you to strengthen the basic design
and help extend the lifespan of your teeth.
Thank you for reading my long post to the end today. ^^
