“Please make them look like a celebrity’s—
so pure white!”
Patients often show us photos
of celebrities with bright white teeth,
(especially, many people bring photos of Gabi...^^)

and ask with excited expressions
whether whitening can really make their teeth look like that.
Because I understand how hopeful they are when they ask,
I feel sorry, but
I always answer firmly:
“No,
that cannot happen with whitening alone.”

The dazzling teeth that look as white as A4 paper
are actually a color that our natural teeth
can never achieve,
no matter how many times whitening is repeated.
So we prepared this!!
Today, if you are curious about
the clear limitations of dental whitening,
and how much brighter teeth can get
through what process,
please read this post to the end~
Whitening has its limits?
Myeongil-dong Dentist: I Can’t Say Teeth Whitening Will Make Your Teeth Pure White.
The dazzling teeth of celebrities
are often not due to whitening,
but to something called
'laminate veneers.'
Our teeth are made up of the outer enamel
and the yellowish dentin underneath.

Whitening is a process that breaks down
pigments deposited on the enamel,
not something that paints the tooth itself
an artificial white color~

In other words, whitening is about making teeth
as clear and bright as possible within their natural shade.
That may help make it easier to understand!
If you really want a pure white color like A4 paper,
you need to change the color of the tooth surface itself
with laminate veneers~

If you repeatedly rely only on whitening,
side effects such as tooth sensitivity or gum irritation
can occur,
so I think it is much more important to find
the optimal color within the patient’s own
'natural beauty.'
Why are whitening results different for each person?

“My friend had whitening and got really bright,
so why are my teeth still so yellow?”
This is similar to how, even if everyone uses the same
whitening product on their skin,
they do not all end up with the same skin tone.
Because each patient has different tooth density, thickness,
and naturally occurring dentin color,
each tooth can have its own unique shade difference.
Whitening is done like this.

Whitening performed at a dental clinic
is carried out step by step while keeping
the safety of the teeth and gums in mind~
- Shade check
We accurately measure the current tooth color
by comparing it with a shade guide,
and discuss the target shade.

- Gum protection
A special protective agent is carefully applied
so that the high-concentration whitening agent
does not touch the delicate gums.
(The key step for protecting the gums and reducing pain!)

- Application of the agent and special light exposure
After applying the whitening agent to the tooth surface,
light is used.
- Repeat and finish
Usually, this is repeated 2 to 3 times for 15 to 20 minutes each,
while checking color changes in real time
and finishing with treatment to prevent sensitivity.
If you repeat it a lot, will it keep getting whiter?
Myeongil-dong Dentist: I Can’t Say Teeth Whitening Will Make Your Teeth Pure White.
Sometimes patients ask
whether repeated whitening will make teeth even whiter.
The answer is, “It could be, or it might not be!”
If you look at the tooth shade guide we use,
the smaller the number,
the brighter the color.

If the patient’s current tooth color
is strongly yellowish, like A4 or A3,

then after whitening is repeated about 2 to 3 times,
there is a good chance that the natural teeth can become

bright enough to reach A1,
the brightest level.
(Of course, this can vary from tooth to tooth^^)
But if the teeth have already reached
the brightness of the brightest A1 level?

From that point on, even if you repeat it 100 times,
it will not go beyond that into an artificial white color
that looks like veneers~
In other words, the conclusion is that whitening has limits!
It is easy to mislead patients with the claim
that their teeth will become as white as a celebrity’s.
But I cannot make such an irresponsible claim.
The most successful whitening, in my view,
is finding a natural brightness level where others can tell
something about the appearance feels cleaner and brighter~
Without overtreatment, I will honestly tell you
how far we can reach the 'best brightness'
that is possible based on your tooth condition.
Thank you for reading this long post today. ^^
