Hello, this is the Gangnam branch of Lee Jiham Dermatology.
These days, when you look in the mirror, have you ever thought, “My jawline seems blurrier than before” or “My V-line is disappearing”? Sagging does not appear all at once; it gradually leaves its trace on our face.
Today, through the story of one patient who came to us with that concern, I’d like to explain Gangnam V-lifting in more detail. If you read this post to the end, you’ll have a clearer idea of what V-lifting is and whether this procedure is right for you.

What exactly is V-lifting?
V-lifting is a lifting procedure that uses ultrasound energy. As the name “VIRO” suggests, it is a procedure specialized in creating a V-line. This procedure uses MMFU technology, which, put simply, concentrates ultrasound into a very small point to deliver thermal energy deep within the skin.
When I asked the patient, “Why do faces sag?” they replied, “Isn’t it just because we get older?” Of course, age is an important factor. Our skin is said to lose about 1% of collagen per year starting in the mid-20s. Collagen plays the role of a pillar that supports the skin, and when it decreases, the skin loses elasticity and begins to sag downward.
But age is not the only cause. Exposure to ultraviolet rays damages collagen and elastin fibers, accelerating skin aging. It’s like leaving a rubber band in the sun for too long until it loses its elasticity. Stress, lack of sleep, smoking, and rapid weight changes are also major causes of reduced skin elasticity. In particular, the habit of looking at smartphones so often these days can place continuous pressure on the neck and jaw area, which, along with the so-called “forward head posture,” may cause jawline sagging more quickly.
Gangnam V-lifting was developed to improve exactly these kinds of sagging concerns. While ordinary lasers act only on the skin surface or the shallow dermis, Viro reaches much deeper layers. Specifically, it delivers energy down to the SMAS layer, a fascial layer. This is the very layer that plastic surgeons pull and fix in place during face-lift surgery. Viro stimulates this layer with ultrasound without surgery.

How does V-lifting work?
The patient asked, “How does ultrasound tighten the skin?” That’s a really good question. If you understand how V-lifting works, you’ll understand why this procedure is effective.
Viro concentrates ultrasound into a single point, generating heat at a specific depth, much like focusing sunlight with a magnifying glass. The temperature generated at that point is about 60 to 70 degrees Celsius, and at that level, proteins coagulate and contract. It’s similar to how raw meat shrinks when it is cooked. This contraction effect creates an immediate lifting result.
V-lifting can use cartridges at various depths, such as 1.5 mm, 3.0 mm, and 4.5 mm. The 1.5 mm cartridge mainly acts on the shallow dermis to improve skin texture and pores; the 3.0 mm cartridge enhances elasticity in the mid-dermis; and the 4.5 mm cartridge reaches the deepest SMAS layer to produce a strong lifting effect. Depending on the patient’s skin thickness, degree of sagging, and the areas they want improved, these depths are combined for a customized treatment.
When the patient asked, “So does that mean you can get a surgery-like effect without surgery?” that is, to some extent, true. Of course, the change is not as dramatic as surgery, but you can expect a natural improvement without disruption to daily life. Above all, not using a scalpel and having almost no recovery time are major advantages of V-lifting.

Who is V-lifting good for?
The patient asked, “I’m in my late 30s—would it be appropriate to get it now? Is it too early or too late?” The answer is simple. For V-lifting, skin condition matters more than age.
Some people start in their late 20s for preventive purposes. They manage it before sagging becomes severe. Like brushing your teeth, it’s something you do as a preventive measure. In your 30s, collagen decline begins in earnest, so stimulating collagen production with Gangnam V-lifting can help slow aging.
Your 40s are when sagging starts to become clearly noticeable. The jawline blurs, the cheeks droop, and nasolabial folds deepen. At this stage, V-lifting can make you feel as if the clock has been turned back a few years.
You can still see sufficient results in your 50s as well. However, if sagging has progressed significantly, multiple sessions may be needed rather than just one.
Many men are also getting it these days. Some ask, “Can men get it too?” Of course. In fact, men’s skin is thicker than women’s and tends to produce more sebum, so it is generally more elastic. As a result, V-lifting tends to last longer for men as well. In an era where appearance management is part of competitiveness, many men are getting lifting treatments as part of self-care.

What I felt while seeing the patient’s changes
The patient returned about two months after the procedure. Smiling brightly, they said, “Doctor, it’s really amazing. People keep asking me if I’ve lost weight lately. I don’t worry about angles when taking photos anymore, and I even feel more confident during video meetings.”
Looking at their face, the jawline was indeed more defined, and the V-line had come back. The worried expression they had when they first came in was gone, replaced by a confident appearance. They said, “I’m glad I got V-lifting. I was afraid of surgery and it felt like a burden, so I’m surprised that I could improve this naturally.”
Hearing that made me feel proud as well. Skin concerns are not simply about appearance. They are about confidence and are directly connected to everyday happiness. Instead of sighing every time you look in the mirror, you smile. Instead of avoiding photos, you start to enjoy them. I believe that these small changes add up and improve quality of life.

What I want to tell my patients
We view dermatology care not simply as treatment, but as a process of completing your beauty. Above all, what matters is natural-looking results without overdoing it, and long-lasting trust. Every skin type is different. For some people, results may appear quickly; for others, it may take a little more time.
Gangnam V-lifting is not just a procedure—it begins with diagnosis and solutions tailored to each person’s skin. Honest care, proven procedures, and the hands of a specialist. Rather than a single treatment, we aim to be a clinic you can trust for a long time.
Do you feel that your jawline is becoming blurrier and your V-line is disappearing? Do you find yourself worrying about your face every time you take a photo or join a video meeting? If so, it may be worth learning more about V-lifting. For those who find surgery burdensome and frightening but want a natural improvement, V-lifting can be a good option.
