Hello, this is the Gangnam branch of Lee Jiham Dermatology Clinic.
If you are struggling with acne, you may have thought things like, “Why is mine so severe?”, “What am I supposed to do when it keeps coming back even if I cover it with makeup?”, or “Why does it improve after taking medication only to flare up again?”
Today, I’d like to talk about AcuLaser, which can offer practical help to those dealing with these concerns. Acne is not simply a surface-level skin problem; it is closely related to overactivity of the sebaceous glands. AcuLaser is a method designed to address this root cause.

AcuLaser directly regulates the sebaceous glands
How does AcuLaser improve acne? First, it helps to understand how acne develops. Our skin has small organs called sebaceous glands, which secrete an oily substance called sebum to protect the skin. A normal amount of sebum is essential for skin health, but when the sebaceous glands become too active due to hormones, stress, genetic factors, and other influences, problems arise.
Excess sebum accumulates in the pores and blocks them, and bacteria then multiply, causing inflammation. This is the red, swollen acne we see. So what is the key point here? It is to “regulate sebaceous gland activity.” Squeezing existing acne or only calming inflammation with medication is just a temporary fix. If the sebaceous glands continue to produce too much sebum, acne will inevitably return.
AcuLaser acne treatment works precisely at this point. A specific wavelength of laser selectively targets the sebaceous glands to reduce excessive sebum production. Because it targets the sebaceous glands themselves rather than the skin surface, it can be considered a fundamental treatment. When the laser energy reaches the sebaceous glands, it reduces their size and lowers their activity.

Changes you may notice as sebum production decreases
The patient mentioned earlier began AcuLaser treatment. At first, they asked, “Is one session enough?” We explained that regulating sebaceous gland activity is a gradual process. Usually, with treatment over multiple sessions, patients experience a gradual decrease in sebum production.
About two weeks after starting treatment, the patient said, “It hasn’t completely cleared up yet, but I can definitely feel that I’m producing less sebum. Before, by lunchtime my face would get so shiny that I had to wipe it with oil blotting paper every time I went to the restroom, but that has decreased a lot lately. And I think new breakouts are happening less often too.”
As sebum production decreases, the first change people usually notice is that their skin feels less oily. The next is that fewer new breakouts appear. Existing acne subsides naturally over time, and because fewer new lesions form, the overall condition of the skin improves. About a month later, the patient was delighted to say, “My makeup really goes on so much better these days. Before, even if I applied makeup, it would break down quickly, but now it stays fine until evening.”

Consistent care leads to good results
The patient’s skin improved a lot after receiving several AcuLaser treatments. About three months after starting treatment, they came back and said, “My condition wasn’t great lately, so a few pimples came up. If this had happened before, I would have left it alone, but now I know it’s important to manage it early, so I came right away.” That kind of proactive care is truly important.
AcuLaser acne treatment is not a magical treatment that solves everything in one session. However, because it improves the condition by addressing the root cause of the sebaceous glands, you can certainly achieve good results if you manage it consistently. It is important to continue care steadily, like running a marathon rather than a sprint.
The patient still comes in about once a month to check their skin condition. They said with a very bright expression, “Before, looking in the mirror because of acne was stressful, but now I enjoy putting on makeup. My friends even ask me if my skin got better.” I feel truly rewarded whenever one person after another is able to move past their skin concerns.

It is necessary to check whether it is the right treatment for you
AcuLaser is especially effective for inflammatory acne with excessive sebum production. If acne repeatedly appears in areas with many sebaceous glands, such as the forehead, cheeks, chin, and around the nose, and if you have oily skin, AcuLaser may be helpful. It is also a good option for those concerned about enlarged pores and rough skin texture.
However, AcuLaser is not suitable for every type of acne. Depending on the skin condition, other treatments may be needed, and in some cases, multiple treatments may need to be combined. That is why the most important thing in consultation is an accurate diagnosis.
We carefully examine the skin condition, ask about lifestyle habits, and also check what treatments have been received before. Only then can we know what treatment is truly needed for that person.

Every skin is different. We strive to provide not just a simple procedure, but a diagnosis and solution tailored to each person’s skin. With honest care, verified procedures, and the hands of a specialist, we aim to work together to solve each person’s skin concerns.
If you are struggling with acne, please do not worry alone any longer. It would be good to look into whether AcuLaser can help resolve your skin concerns. We will be with you until the day your skin recovers healthily.
