[Dermatology Specialist Lee Yudeuk]
Hello,
A place that creates a comfortable face
rather than excessive change.
This is Lee Jiham Dermatology Clinic.
These days, when I talk with patients in the consultation room, I often hear, “Doctor, there are so many kinds of lifting procedures these days that I don’t know what to choose.” If you’re worried about skin sagging, you’ve probably thought about this at least once. Today, through the story of a patient I recently met, I’d like to talk together about a procedure called Onda lifting. I hope this will be practically helpful to those reading this post.
A beauty consultation that brings you benefits
I am dermatology specialist Lee Yudeuk.
There Should Be Standards Even for Gangnam Station Dermatology Specialist Treatment
Not long ago, a patient in her mid-40s came to the clinic.
As soon as the patient opened the consultation room door
and came in, she looked in the mirror
and let out a sigh.
“Doctor, my face
isn’t what it used to be.
Every morning when I look in the mirror,
my jawline seems less defined,
and my cheeks keep feeling like they’re sagging down.”
There was a mix of worry and
impatience in the patient’s voice.
When I asked in detail, it turned out the patient had already
visited several clinics and received
consultations.
But the procedures recommended by each clinic were
different, which made her even more confused.
“At one place they recommend ultrasound lifting,
and at another place they say radiofrequency is better...
I just want a natural improvement,
but I don’t know what would be right for me.”
This kind of concern is actually something many
people commonly feel.
As a Gangnam Station dermatology specialist,
when I see patients,
I often meet people who are having difficulty choosing
because they’re overwhelmed by too much information.

What is Onda lifting?
I began explaining Onda lifting
to the patient.
Onda lifting is
a lifting procedure that uses
microwave energy.
It works on a different principle from
existing ultrasound or radiofrequency methods.
The microwave energy reaches deep
layers of the skin, selectively heats the
fat layer,
and stimulates even the dermal layer,
where collagen is found.
Through this process, the skin
regenerates on its own and regains elasticity.

Then how is it different from
other lifting procedures?
The patient was curious.
If ultrasound lifting delivers energy
in points, Onda delivers
energy across a surface.
That means it has the advantage of being able to
treat a wider area more uniformly.
In addition, because it also acts on the fat
layer, it can help refine not only the skin
but also the volume of the face.
It’s like tidying up unnecessary
bulk on the face while also
improving elasticity at the same time.
As a Gangnam Station dermatology specialist, after using many
lifting devices, what I’ve found is that each device has its own characteristics,
and the appropriate procedure varies depending on the patient’s skin condition.
In the case of Onda lifting, it is especially effective for people with
fat-type sagging—in other words, cases where there is a lot of cheek fat
along with sagging.

The treatment principle and effects of Onda lifting
I explained the treatment principle of Onda lifting
to the patient in more detail.
Microwave energy passes through the skin surface
and delivers thermal energy to the fat layer and
the dermal layer.
The heat generated at this time causes fat cells to
shrink and collagen fibers to contract.
Our body responds to this kind of stimulation by
starting to produce new collagen.
“Doctor, then when do the effects
start to appear?”
the patient asked.
The effects of Onda lifting appear in roughly two
stages.
Right after the procedure, you may feel an immediate lifting
effect as the collagen fibers contract.
And as time passes,
roughly between 4 and 12 weeks, new
collagen is produced and gradual
improvement takes place.
Usually, you experience the maximum
effect after about 2 to 3 months.

Treatment process and advantages
“How long does the procedure take?
Does it hurt?”
the patient asked cautiously.
Onda lifting usually takes about
30 minutes to 1 hour,
depending on the treatment area.
Pain varies from person to person,
but most patients feel a warm sensation,
and may experience a slight tingling
around the bones.
However, it is not unbearable, and if needed,
a numbing cream can be applied to reduce discomfort.
You can return to daily life immediately after the procedure.
There may be slight swelling or redness right after treatment,
but it usually subsides within 1 to 3 days.
You can wash your face and apply makeup
on the same day.
This is a major advantage for busy modern people.
People who work office jobs often receive the procedure during
their lunch break or after work and go back to work
the next day.
They also asked about how long the effects last.
Although it varies from person to person,
in general the effects last about 6 months to 1 year.
It can vary depending on skin care status, age,
and lifestyle habits. To maintain the effect,
we recommend receiving retreatment every 6 months to 1 year.
But this is not a uniform standard either,
and it can be adjusted while observing the patient’s condition.

Treatment also needs standards
What I most want to emphasize from today’s conversation is
that lifting procedures should also have clear standards.
A more expensive device is not always better,
and not every trendy procedure is right for everyone.
Accurately diagnosing each patient’s skin condition and
suggesting a procedure that fits that condition.
That is what I believe is the true attitude of medicine.
Onda lifting is certainly a good
procedure, but it is not suitable for everyone.
It is a procedure that works well for people whose sagging is not too severe
and who have fat-type sagging.
On the other hand, for people with very severe sagging or
thin skin, another procedure may be more appropriate.
This kind of judgment is only possible by directly
looking at the skin and making a diagnosis.
We believe dermatology care is not simply treatment,
but a process of completing your beauty.
