Hello.
We are Magok Station Seoul Dia Dental Clinic,
which never overlooks even the smallest changes inside the mouth.
Before we get into Part 3 of the fluoride series,
do you remember Part 2?
There are so many types, from fluoride toothpaste and mouthwash to varnish,
that some of you may have thought, “When am I supposed to memorize all this…?”
(No need to force yourself to memorize it, haha.)
If you missed it, it may be nice to do a quick review below.
Now, let’s get back to the main topic,
and focus on today’s story!!!
So in this Part 3,
we’re going all in on just one thing: the “varnish process.”
Before you actually receive it, we’ll explain the key points in a very easy and realistic way,
so you can picture how it works in your head.
What is fluoride application (varnish)?

Magok Station Dental Clinic_Fluoride varnish
It is a “professional fluoride coating” with a concentration about 15 to 20 times higher than the fluoride toothpaste used at home.
When varnish is applied to the tooth surface,
it hardens immediately upon contact with saliva,
strengthening the enamel and
quickly blocking sensitive, sharp sensations.
It’s fast.
It’s effective.
And best of all, it doesn’t hurt.
Fluoride application (varnish),
This Is How It’s Done!
The actual fluoride varnish procedure takes only about 3 to 5 minutes.
It is performed in the following order,
with no anesthesia needed and no pain.
It is one of the fastest treatments in the clinic.
Step 1. Drying the tooth surface

The saliva, moisture, and pellicle (a thin biological film) attached to the teeth are gently removed.
Why is this done?
It is not a noisy process like brushing or scaling,
but rather a light cleanup with air, gauze, or a sponge.
Step 2. Applying the varnish coating

Using a small brush (adhesive brush),
simply apply a thin layer across the tooth surface.
It goes on very thinly, like lacquer,
and can be applied either to the entire tooth or selectively to only the needed areas.
If the patient cooperates well,
it really is that simple—it can be done in less than 30 seconds without exaggeration.
Step 3. Hardening upon contact with saliva

Magok Station Dental Clinic_Coating layer formation
Because varnish contains special ingredients,
it hardens as soon as it comes into contact with saliva, forming a protective coating layer.
There is no need to wait for a separate drying period.
Once it hardens, it feels like this.
The surface feels smooth and coated.
A slight yellowish or translucent tint is normal.
The fluoride layer wraps around the teeth and serves as a protective barrier throughout the day.
Really, it’s simple, right?^^
How long does fluoride application (varnish) last?

Magok Station Dental Clinic_Varnish duration
It is, more than you might think, a “long-lasting type.”
In most cases, the effect lasts about 3 to 6 months,
but because each person’s dental condition and lifestyle differ,
the recommended interval can vary slightly.
The easiest way to understand it is like this.
- People who are prone to cavities
→ Reapplying every 3 months is best!
- People undergoing orthodontic treatment
→ High-risk period for cavities between braces wires
→ Strongly recommended every 3 months!
- Adults with sensitivity or gum recession
→ A 3- to 6-month interval is most stable!
- General adults
→ Even 1 to 2 times every 6 months to 1 year is very good!
- Children and teenagers (growing teeth)
→ The period when teeth are becoming stronger
→ A 3-month routine is recommended!
In particular, for children and teenagers,
the progression of cavities is much faster than in adults,
so regular varnish can be seen as something like “insurance.”
With a short investment of time,
you can greatly reduce the possibility of cavities.
The conclusion is simple.
“Varnish is a 3-minute investment that protects your teeth for months.”
That’s why many people always love this type of care.
