Hello.
We are Magok-dong Seoul Dia Dental Clinic, sharing only the information you need
to understand what is going on inside your mouth right now.

When the year-end passes and January begins,
there are fewer gatherings,
and it becomes the kind of season when you think,
“Now I should take care of the things I’ve been putting off.”

So especially around this time, people often say things like this.
“There’s been a gap since last year…”
“It didn’t hurt,
but now I feel like I should do something about it.”

So today’s topic continues from the last time,
and is prepared as another bridge story.

First, in Part 2,
we talked about who bridge treatment is suitable for
and in which cases more careful consideration is needed.
If you haven’t seen it, you may want to read that first.
(Today’s content will make much more sense.)
Now, the full Bridge Series Part 3!
Let’s go through [Bridge Treatment Process]
one step at a time,
in the style of Seoul Dia Dental Clinic in Magok-dong.
How is bridge treatment carried out?
- We first check the current condition

We first look at things like:
the location of the missing tooth,
whether the teeth on both sides can support it,
whether the gums are in good condition,
and where the force goes when chewing.

Even if everything looks fine on the outside,
the inside situation can be different.
(Teeth have a lot of hidden circumstances too.)

At this stage, we check whether a bridge is the right choice.

- We prepare the teeth on both sides

A bridge is a structure in which
the teeth on both sides support it together.
So the adjacent teeth are slightly shaped and adjusted
so that the prosthesis can be placed.

Because the procedure is done under local anesthesia,
most people react with something like,
“That’s more manageable than I expected.”

- We take an impression of the teeth to make the prosthesis

Once the adjacent teeth have been prepared,
we now take an impression.

Taking an impression means
literally transferring the shape of your teeth as they are.

What shape it is,
how high it is,
and what the spacing is like with the neighboring teeth—
accurate information like this is necessary
so that the bridge will not feel awkward
when chewing or speaking later.

The information obtained this way is
sent to the place where the prosthesis is made.

In other words, from this point on,
the prosthesis customized for your mouth
begins to be made step by step.

- A temporary tooth is used until the final prosthesis is placed

Until the prosthesis is completed,
you will get by using a temporary tooth.

You can think of the temporary tooth as something used for a short time
that helps you live comfortably without major inconvenience.

- We fit and place the final bridge prosthesis

Once the prosthesis has been made,
we now try in the final bridge.

At this stage,
we check whether there is any catching feeling when chewing,
whether it feels too high or too tight,
and whether it blends naturally with the neighboring teeth.

Bridge treatment is not finished simply because it has been placed,
so if there are any uncomfortable areas,
we adjust them right at this stage
and finish it in a state that is comfortable for your mouth.
To summarize today’s story in just the essentials:
Bridge treatment involves
checking the condition,
setting the direction,
preparing the teeth,
taking impressions to make a custom prosthesis,
getting used to it with a temporary tooth,
and then adjusting the final bridge to complete it.

while treatment results are important,
we place even more importance on helping you first understand
“why this treatment is needed.”

When you know and then receive treatment,
it’s not so much that dental treatment becomes less scary,
but that you feel much more at ease.^^

In Part 4,
we plan to move on to a question that we get a lot in consultations:
“So, doesn’t a bridge have any disadvantages?”
We’ll talk realistically about [the disadvantages and lifespan of bridge treatment]
without dressing it up unnecessarily.

You don’t need to know everything about dental treatment all at once.
We’ll continue slowly in the next post.
