Perfectly Filling Tooth Gaps with Black Triangle Laminate [Including a Treatment Case]

I endured orthodontic treatment for a long time to get straight, attractive teeth, but black spaces are showing between my gums, and it’s really bothering me!

Can tooth gap filling be done?

As teeth that were overlapping before orthodontic treatment move into alignment, gaps may appear between them, or as the gums recede, a triangular space may form in between.

This mostly occurs because the jawbone between the gums has decreased due to aging or periodontal disease, but it can also happen if post-orthodontic care is not maintained or if you have a habit of brushing too hard.

Not only that, but when gum disease is severe, loss of the bone between the gums can leave gaps that appear as black spaces.

As a result, they stand out very noticeably when smiling or talking, and food can easily get stuck in the spaces, which may increase the risk of cavities or gum disease.

First, this is the photo from the patient’s initial visit.

This patient had undergone orthodontic treatment for a long time in order to address irregular teeth, which had been a complex for them.

However, they said that a large gap had formed between the front teeth, creating another source of concern.

Since they were an office worker, it was hard to make time, and they said they wanted to avoid going through orthodontic treatment again, which would require monthly visits to the dental clinic.

While looking into options, they saw our clinic’s diagnostic process and came in to inquire about Black Triangle Laminate treatment.

3D Smile Preview Technology

Through the 'Smile Preview System,' which measures and shows the actual amount of tooth reduction in a 3D preview, we not only calculate the reduction amount in advance,

but also proceed with treatment using a guide made from those results, which they liked because it trims only what is necessary.

They preferred the least irritating method possible, since their teeth felt much more sensitive and weaker after the orthodontic force used for alignment.

As you can see, the amount of reduction has a major impact on conservative prognosis.

That is why, at Make Dental Clinic, we calculated the numbers in advance and created a guide for this case as well.

First, the anterior half of the right first tooth was 0.641 mm.

The third canine area was 0.596 mm.

The back side of the left first front tooth was 0.386 mm.

The back side of the second tooth and the middle of the third tooth were set by measuring the shaping amount at 0.481 mm and 0.300 mm, respectively.

To explain again, for an overall natural arch shape, a total of 7 teeth from #14 to #23 were planned, with #11, #13, #21, #22, and #23 requiring minimal reduction, and #12 and #14 planned to be done without reduction.

Also, #14 already had previous prosthetic treatment, but the gums had receded and the patient wanted it replaced, #13 had a fractured tooth, and #23 also had severe wear near the incisal edge and needed improvement.

In addition, since the patient wanted brighter teeth, we selected W3, which is two shades brighter than the existing A1 color.

Using the guide made from these precise measurements, we attached it and carried out gum contouring and tooth shaping for a natural-looking prosthetic form.

Because we used a guide, we were able to carry out even the delicate parts precisely.

The reason we go through this seemingly cumbersome process is to better meet the patient’s needs, as shown in the photo above.

Not only was the tooth gap filled, but there were also many areas to improve overall, such as fractures and wear, so the patient did not have high expectations, but said it turned out much better than expected and was pleased.

They were also surprised, saying it was the first time they had felt so many changes in such a short period.
