What are the denture insurance coverage criteria?​

The National Health Insurance Service provides partial support for the cost of making full or partial dentures for seniors aged 65 and over. This can be seen as a system that takes into account not only simple welfare benefits but also the nutritional status and quality of life of older adults.

Denture treatment process

Denture fabrication is not a one-step procedure, but a detailed treatment process carried out in stages.

It usually takes about 2 to 4 weeks, and 5 to 6 visits are required.

The process is as follows.

① Diagnosis and treatment plan

After checking the patient’s oral condition, a preliminary impression is taken to confirm the anatomical structure, and a custom tray is made.

② Precise impression taking

Using the custom tray made in advance, a detailed impression is taken after checking the shape of the gums and tongue movement.

③ Bite and height measurement

The position where the upper and lower teeth meet and the height are measured to check the height of the denture.

④ Try-in of the wax denture

Before completing the final denture, a temporary denture is worn to check the bite, appearance, and how it feels when speaking, and to make revisions and decide on the final design.

⑤ Final denture fabrication and fitting

Based on the revised information, the final denture is made, the completed denture is fitted in the mouth, and maintenance instructions are provided.

⑥ Follow-up care

Within 3 months after denture fitting, up to 6 maintenance visits are provided free of charge, and after 3 months, insurance-covered treatment fees apply.
